Request for QuadToneRIP Instructions

Request for QuadToneRIP Instructions

2004-08-06 by Mike Bergen

Thank you very much Roy for providing us with an affordable substitute
for Imageprint, I really like BO prints but this should be a great
alternative. I immediately downloaded the files and am now trying to
figure out how to make it work. I have the Print-2200.bat file on my
desktop as well as the gray scale tiff file that was provided. I gather
that one must drag the tiff file on top of the bat file and then some
sort of miracle happens, but not on my computer. Unfortunately my
degree in computer science expired about 30 years ago.
I would like to request that someone more familiar with this process
provide us with a detailed step by step process. I imagine others
would also find this useful.
Thanks in advance,
Mike

Yes, that would be great. I have a 1280 so I can't use it yet but I
read the instructions several times in both the QTR and 2200 profile
downloads and it wasn't clear how to set it up. If my printer is
already installed do I set up another one and call it Quad 2200 in
the Share tab?

Thanks,

Tom

I'm right there with you guys! I downloaded the program and followed
the directions as best I could. Did it 3-4 times now and I keep
getting a message ending with "No curve found..." and then nothing.
I;m not sure what to do next.

Any suggestions from anyone would be greatly appreciated.

Did you edit the batch file and uncomment the appropriate paper
profile for the desired tone?

For example if you wanted to print a sepia toned print with Epson
Enhanced Matte paper you would uncomment the following line in a copy
of the Print-2200.bat file.
Change @: set CURVE1=EEM_2200-Sepia to
set CURVE1=EEM_2200-Sepia.

Hope this helps,

Don Bryant

I, also downloaded the QTRip for windows, and had some difficulties
have some of it figured out with the help of Roy via email, who is
very responsive to help. I've attached the "edit" of print-2200.bat
that works for my machine. I set up the Print-2200.bat on the desk
top and drag the tiff to the .....bat.

worked. Hope this helps. I am pleased with the QTRip and glad Roy
put it together, it certainly is more than worth what he asks for in
price.

I'm having problems editing the .bat file. Is this the Print-2200
file? When I send it to Notepad nothing happens. Right-clicking to
edit also doesn't work.

Okay, I can print, but the print is a veiled gray, partial, and
somewhat distorted (as if streched). I printed at 360 -- still the
same. I'm probably overlooking something elementary. Any help would
be appreciated.

Problem: QuadToneRIP on Windows XP

2004-08-07 by Nelson Ricciardi

Patrick

Thank you for this info.

I´m trying to make QTRip work here.

I use QImage in my basic workflow, to place the images in the right
place on the page, to add text, etc

What I´m trying to do now is still use QImage to do that part of the
job (much better than Photoshop) and "print to a tiff file", using
720ppi as my output resolution, for a letter size page. I understand
that the 2200 has 720 dpi as it´s default.

When I try to send the file to QTRip, something gets printed, but
it´s more of a mess than properly an image. And the image that I see
printed is smaller than what QImage shows me.

Could you please share the size and resolution you use on your TIFF
file?

Thanks

Nelson

Folks

My tests show that, using QImage to prepare my pages:

- I can print fine with QTR, with an QImage output file of 8x10
inches and 360dpi.

- I can NOT print an QImage output of 8.5x11 inches and 720 dpi.

I still don´t know why.

Re: Request for QuadToneRIP Instructions

2004-08-08 by Roy Harrington

I've been collecting the various issues people have had and there are now some
updated instructions. I think they address many of the problems.

They available on the QTR windows webpage.

I've had a lot of questions about the other printers. As soon as the basic
issues are stablized the others will be out soon. Also there's a lot of
interest in the 4000. I've been working on one for a couple weeks and it
looks very good so far. This will be available for both Mac and PC in the
near future.

I solved my problem by reinstalling the software. I believe that on
my first installation I may have failed to run the Install2200 file.
At any rate, it looks like my problem has disappeared. Now for some
printing...

If I understand it right, 16 bits and 8 bits RGB files are not compatible,
right?

Re: Request for QuadToneRIP Instructions

I was the first one to make this request and appreciate all the help.
I can now run the program and I know how to edit the file however I have
yet to get it to print. My 2200 is connected via a usb port to my
computer. I set it up as a shared printer per the instructions, however
I don't think I have the required type of "network".
The errors I get in the file include comments about LPT3 ( Is this not
the parallel port?) as well as "System error 66 has occurred", "The
network resource type is not correct" and "The system cannot find the
path specified".
Clearly I have a "networking" problem. I will be gone for the next few
days and look forward to
any advice I may receive in the meantime,
Mike

Run the Network Wizard and pretend that you have a home network.

It will solve your problem, I guess.

Nelson,
so far I have printed 5x7, 8x10, and 13x17 images, trying to get
ready for a presentation, all have been at 720ppi, the image is RGB,
that has been converted to b&w, using a plugin from the
imagingfactory, and sometimes using the channel mixer I have not
tried to use grayscale mode. I haven't tried to print from Qimage,
although I use it for color work.

Patrick

Thank you for the info.

What paper size are you using?

I'm using letter size paper ONLY. So I guess the max I can use is 8x10,
right?

I don’t have any A3 or A5 paper here to try, so I guess I'll have to wait
until I buy some. I'll take care of that.

It's good to know you're doing RGB fine. That's what I use in my workflow,
and not grayscale.

Could you please do a test for me? Print a 8x10 RGB 16 bit TIFF in 720 dpi
and see if you can get a proper output? I'd really appreciate. I just want
to know if I'm doing something wrong.

Thank you.

Nelson
I tried to print an RGB file(B&W), 16 bit - program came back saying
no, no! converted to 8bit, 720 ppi, 8x10 and everything is back to
normal. A5, is 5.83x8.27 inches so you could cut a ltr in half to
use.

Re: Request for QuadToneRIP Instructions

2004-08-08 by johnglodge

Norton Internet Security for example will of course block using
network printing.

All I did was unplug the high speed modem and disable the net
security printing QT printing worked fine.

Will figure out what to do permanently later.

If someone knows how to make a command line reference out of USB002
(no colon unlike lpt3: for example)??? that does not use net
commands!!

Probably need to edit the registry.

HP Designjet 2000/3000 output?

2004-08-13 by Rob Coomer

I want to do some large size b&w prints for a show I have coming up. I
normally do most of my prints on an Epson 1270 with colorlife paper. I'm
hoping to be able to upgrade to a 2200 or 4000 by the end of the year.

A local digital print shop has a HP Designjet 2000 and 3000 running HP
dye inks and HP photo glossy 7mil stock. Their price is about 1/3 of
what a local camera shop wants for output from a Epson 9600 (which is
almost 1/2 the price of a local photolab). The print shop doesn't know
much about their HP, but they are easy to work with and would do
whatever it took to get me a good print. I do a fair amount of B&W
document printing with them. I may end up helping them to do the
print/prints myself.

The question comes down to, How good are prints from the HP 2000/3000
printers? I saw on an old Wilhelm report it listed HP 2500/3500 dye
output on HP high gloss as only having a life of 6 years. Is this true
of black only prints? How are the prints using HP UV pigmented inks?
They are willing to get the archival inks for me, but I would hate to
have them do that, if this equipment wont make good prints.

What are your thoughts on the HP 2000/3000, or should I just go ahead
and get far fewer prints from the 9600.

Thanks,

Re: [Digital BW] Request for QuadToneRIP Instructions

2004-08-19 by Jean-Pierre Verbeke

Me too ihave some problem setting up the Quadtone RIP...
When trying to to "share this printer" in the EPSON Stylus Photo 2100
Properties window, I put in the "Share Name": "Quad2200" but get the
message:
"Printer settings could not be saved. Operation could not be completed".

Since I live in Belgium, I have an Epson 2100, could this be the cause.....

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
