I'm liking museo more and more. It is a fine paper. The texture of Torchon
makes it a non-starter for me. I'm also printing smaller. I used to print
everything to a 12inch width (35mm neg) but someone suggested I try printing
smaller, so I've been printing to an 8.5 inch width and it looks great
(thanks JD!).
I've got a rolleiflex waiting at the post office and an epson 1680 in
transit, so I'm looking forward to small square pictures, maybe a 9inch
width?, but that depends on the 1680.

Group question:

How many have ever seen greenish prints on Epson Archival Matte? I know of
2 people on the lists that have, and I'm wondering if they may have gotten a
bad batch of ink. I've been using this paper since it came out, for color,
for Cold tone MIS inks, and for Piezo inks. I have never seen any turning
green, OR fading OR color shifting under normal room lighting conditions.

Never heard of an epson 1680. Are you in the U.S., or is this a brand new
printer?

Jerry,

you may want to post this question under an appropriate thread title.
Otherwise it will get lost in the archives.

It is a flatbed scanner Jerry. It will affect my output size as I won't be
getting my usual 4000dpi. It has an interesting adaptor for negs though. My
SS4000 was my first scanner so I've been a bit spoilt as far as resolution
is concerned. I've also never shot 6x6. LF and 6x7/9, but never the magic
6x6.

Jerry.
I´m at work now, so I havn´t got any prints at hand. But if I
remember it right you were in the 31 print exchange group.
There were several EAM prints in the exchange which were printed with
pure Cone inks.
I remember a print of a young girl laying on their bed which was not
only warm toned but nearly brown to my eyes, while there was another
print of a shop-window somewhere in Scottland which seemed to be
green by direct comparison.
BTW both images were excellent, I´m sorry not to be able to remember
the artists names now and here.
Did you compare the images ??
Let me know your impression.

Bernd

Green EAM was [Digital BW] Re: Museo (and Torchon)

Jerry,

The only referrences to greenish prints were with the Piezo inks but
it occured on several different papers. Unless someone has seen this
with one of the other ink sets, I believe this is a Piezo only issue
and not limited to any one paper. I don't know if it is showing up
more on EAM because of something is wrong with EAM or because lots of
people use EAM.

No observed fading at my place. The Piezo inks on EAM do warm up a
bit but the effect is nice.

Re: [Digital BW] Re: Museo (and Torchon)

Bernd, some of the images were warm, but none were green, to my eyes. Most
were pretty close to the piezo color I get on Epson Archival matte, slightly
brown in daylight, neutral in tungsten light. I think the piezo prints look
much nicer under tungsten lighting.

Yes, certain shades of gray do seem to be a bit browner than others, while a
contrastier print with fewer grays seems to be more neutral.

Do you mean the one with all the spoons, square image? It didn't seem green
to me.

Jerry,
pretty much the same thing for me.
If I put the image of Nina or my own image as rather neutral most
of the EAM prints are neutral too for my eyeball metering.
But Michaels print of the girl seems very much warmer (tungsten
light, it is 11pm in Germany now). My wife calls the tone "beige" I
would call it nearly brown. (Much warmer than my Agfa
Multicontrast silver prints I used to call "warm"-toned). I would
repeat, that in direct comparison Henry´s picture (which has
ATGET qualities) has a greenish tint - although I would not say it
IS green. I wouldn´t even say that I dislike this tint. For my own
images I prefer the warmer tones, but I like Henry´s picture a lot
and that seems to dominate my perception so much, that I even
like the greenish tint.
BTW your picture is the coolest one, isn´t it?
All subjective stuff, I know.
