Can't print with QTR on 1280 & Win2K

Can't print with QTR on 1280 & Win2K

2004-08-17 by mccarvill

Has anyone experienced this problem when trying to print with
QuadTonePCbeta3 on Windows 2000: The progress screen pops up, the
system resources meter spikes so it looks like something is
happening, no error messages pop up … but then nothing prints or
spools?

The cmd.exe screen ends with:

>go to done
> pause
Press any key to continue

The qtrlog2 file ends with:

INFO: Printing page 1, 97%
INFO: Finished page 1...
INFO: Ready to print.

My 1280 is on lpt1 and I modified quadtoneprint.bat to reflect this.
A test page prints perfectly after an unsuccessful attempt with QTR.

No files named *lpt1* or others which would appear to be print files
could be found when I searched my PC.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Ok but did you modify it in enough places, when you look back in the
command file on the screen in the long quadtoprinter 1 1 1 1 etc
wrapped line is there a "1>lpt1" or is it still "1>Lpt3"

Thanks, John.

Yes, in that long paragraph that begins with ">imagetoraster 1 1
1 1
pagesize = letter" the command "1>LPT1" appears
near the end.

QuadToneRIP can't print directly to the printer. It sets LPT3 as a networked
printer then uses it. If you don't have networking set up on the computer,
check some other threads for suggestions. Don't modify the LPT.

[Digital BW] Re: Can't print with QTR on 1280 & Win2K

Thanks, Stephen.

I did the loopback adapter thing from http://support.microsoft.com/?
kbid=236869, reinstalled QTR, directed the imagetoraster line in
quadtoneprint.bat to lpt1 but left netuse directed to lpt3 – and it
worked. It produces a few error messages (i.e. network connection
could not be found, system error 53 has occurred, network path was
not found
) but then the printer starts up.

Cheers,

Mark

Stephen, I don't understand the sense of your response.

It is only putting to an output stream, it can certainly put to a
file I have done so.

The only reason for the network runaround is that printers such as
the Epson 2200 are on USB ports and there is a command file issue in
sending to one (it is not possible from a command file to give it
the right handle). But for the Lpt1 port as with a file that is not
the case.

Your comments seem like a red herring.
