Printing Problem with vm27 Curves on Epson 870

Printing Problem with vm27 Curves on Epson 870

2004-08-18 by mxgo95747

I been having a problem printing with the vm 27 curves on my 870 printer. All prints
regardless of curve come out very light. The particulars are:

I am using color setting: "Photoshop 5 Default spaces", RGB: "sRgb IEC61966-2.1",
CMYK: "Photoshop 5 Default", Gray: "Gamma 2.2", spot: "Dot Gain 20%"

When the photo comes on the screen the dialogue box "Missing Profile" and it gives
me three choices: 1) "Leave as is", 2) "Assign: working Gray 2.2", and 3) Assign profile
"dot gain 20%" with the other options under this third choice. Which option do I pick?
I think I tried all of them with the same effect.

I convert the photo from "gs" to RGB, load the vm 27 curve (I get the same effect with
all curves: a very light print)

Printer Preview "Same as source"
Printer: Paper PQIJ, Color, Print resolution 1440, high speed, I leave sliders at 0,
Gamma at 1.8.

I also tried the the vm70 curves with the proper settings and I got the same very light
prints.

I am using ARC T008-QVM color cartiridges with an Enhanced Generations black ink
cartiridges. I tried two color cartiridges and the same thing happens.

What am I doing wrong?

Oh yes, my "BO" prints come out great using a BO color setting with a 21 step wedge
or with Clayton's "BO" procedure.

I was doing OK with the vm curves prints, (a while back). However, since I usually
print only "BO", every time I get back to the vm 27 or VM 70 curves, I have to re-
learn the procedures all over. I am trying to get some warm prints from some Angkor
Wat B&W negatives I took a couple of years a ago. I think prints would look a lot
better in a warm tone.

thanks,
Martin
