I will be modifying the UT7 inkset for the 4000. I have initially called it the UT8 inkset. I have not schedule (or 4000) yet, however. (Rumor has it there will be a second release of the 4000.) Paul www.PaulRoark.com _____________________

Hmmm, I always found that since its release and apart from some initial "first look" reviews there has been silence around this printer - relatively to the success it should have been. Is there something wrong with it? But maybe I am just too far away from where the discussions are really going on... Anyway, having got an MF camera I would like to print bigger than 11x14, and the 7600 is too big and too expensive for me, so the 4000 would be the right size... regards, Bernie

Bernie, I shoot 35 and 645 film and have migrated from the 1160 to the 4000. The 4000 is as good as the reviews say. My color prints have been beautiful and after some struggle I am getting really good B&W with the Ultrachrome inkset and small gamut profiles. These profiles use light cyan and light magenta in the highlight values and with a loup look so much better than the results I was getting with Epson Gray Balancer. They are designed specifically for B&W. The author is Eric Bullock who is active in the Epson large format group. There was a link here to butzi.net/articles/toning (I think that's right) which has a series of excellent toning curves. QTR will soon be 4000 ready which will really make the 4000 a B&W tool for everyone. Andrew

Wasn't there supposed to be an Epson Stylus Pro 4000-C4, four colour unit that would have been great for b&w printing? Andre, >Wasn't there supposed to be an Epson Stylus Pro 4000-C4, >four colour unit that would have been great for b&w printing? I don't know. The rumor I heard related to firmware and paper feed issues. And, it was just a rumor -- not from Epson. Has anyone used the Colorburst RIP for B&W, and if so what did you think of it? Any comparisons with IP...? From Inkjet NEWS & Tips: EPSON INTRODUCES NEW STYLUS PRO 4000 "PROFESSIONAL EDITION" Earlier this week the Epson ProGraphics division announced a new version of the Epson Stylus Pro 4000 that would become available next month in addition to their regular 4000 model. The Epson Stylus Pro 4000 Professional Edition (#C511001PRO) includes a ColorBurst RIP and a 10/100 Base-T Ethernet card.

It was mentioned before here that there might be a "second edition" or something like that... Depends now how much they charge for the RIP - the 4000 version of IP is rather expensive....
