7600 banding problem solved

7600 banding problem solved

2004-08-30 by Steven Karafyllakis

Hi All;

After all my grousing about this dither-banding problem, I thought I
should post the solution I arrived at, with some greatly appreciated
help from Michael Askew. I'm sure this has been posted before, but
it bears repeating-I can't be the only one that missed it the first
three times (can I?).

The head alignment (Uni-directional and Bi-directional) did not
help. Mind you, I got better resolution, and got rid of most of the
color fringing, but the banding was still there. On Michael's
advice, I turned off first the "finest detail" option, and then the
Bi-directional. Turning off "finest detail" made a huge difference-
80% of the banding went away. Turning off Bi-directional (aka high-
speed)got rid of the rest of it, and cleaned up the fine detail some
more. Never did think much of that HI-speed option, every printer
I've ever owned has done better without it. Now if I can just
translate this to QTR-ese, I'll be a happy camper, and I can do
something else with the 7500-has anyone perfected that coating-fluid
in-the-printer process yet?

The "finest details" option has to be used only if you print line
graphics as from CAD. In normal mode it only increased the amount of
data drasticaly and slow the printing speed down.

You are right, but anyway you may try the "paper feed compensation"
feature from service menu. This feature is able to compensate most of
the horizontal bandings. Uni or Bi directional mode.

Note about 7600 banding problem

I apologize to write something most of you know, I believe.

There are many features to tune the printing of Epson LF printers -
hidden in service menu (accesible by hitting of right arrow in Ready
mode) or accesible from Epson service utility program.

Try to check it, maybe you'll find the solution of yours problems
offered directly from Epson.

My 2 cents.
