Newbie QTR Print Problem Questions

Newbie QTR Print Problem Questions

2004-09-01 by bradmichael2003

I just downloaded and set up the Windows Beta release 3 version of QTR
and the Epson UC 2200 profiles to try out this program before purchase
to print out some of my B&W prints. I did not have much sucess
though. I have converted my digital images to B&W with either Fred
Miranda's B&W Pro converter or with the Russell Brown technique in
Adobe PS CS, on a Pantone Colorvision profiled monitor. I then
converted the image to greyscale, and saved as a tiff, non compressed.
I have tried both the new vers. 1.5 QTR gui, placing the file in the
monitored folder and dropping it onto the print*.bat file. The
resulting prints are well, horrible. Extremely grainy, and they are
not printing at the saved image size (from PS) like I thought that
they would. I have selected EEM for the profiles in QTR gui, for the
Epson Enhanced Matte paper I am using with the Matte Black cartridge.

I have the original file saved as a jpeg to show what i wanted it to
look like, and have scanned the output image to show the low quality
that I ended up with. If anyone is interested in taking any time to
help me out I would appreciate it a lot. After reading the good
things people have said about this RIP I had my hopes up, and I want
to make sure I am not doing something wrong in my workflow which has
led me to this discouraging print.

Thank you in advance! You can email me directly at

Re: [Digital BW] Newbie QTR Print Problem Questions

I just recently got the QuadtoneRIP to work. What I discovered was that
the TIFF file must be 8 bit, I had to turn OFF my software firewall,
the file could have no layers or channels, and I had to have my internet
connection working. Now it works great.
Hope this helps.
