lines on prints

2004-09-19 by weareallsosmall

hi everybody

I'm getting lines on most of my prints that extend about a half inch
outside the print area. These lines are all travelling in the
direction of the print head, and are caused by what looks like the
magenta head. In most cases it's just a few lines, somtimes its many
MANY lines, and every so often I get lucky and get a line free print.
Any ideas as to what's causing this and how I can fix it?

Thanks
john

John: I also get these on my new 1280. Mine seems to be a yellow
nozzle that just keeps firing, sometimes two passes, sometimes twenty.
It's very noticeable because I print Black Only and you can see the
yellow stripe throught the print area and extending into one margin to
the edge of the paper. This is a new 1280 and my old 1280 never did this.

I tried de-installing and then re-installing the driver but that did
not cure the problem. I have no s/w or h/w that could be related
installed. I'm running XP (w/o SP2), USB2 through a hub. I must have
the hub as the distance is longer than the printer cable plus it
connects to two printer and a scanner. Can't be the hub as I used to
run two printers and two scanners with no problem with my old 1280.

I'm thinking is a problem within the printer itself and will ask Epson
to swap it since it's under warranty.

It's probably a dirty head, check your printer where the heads park when not in use,
see if there is a pad or wiper that cleans off the head, when it parks. If there is, then
see if it has a build up of ink on the pad or wiper, if there is, then either see if you
can clean or replace the pad or wiper. Otherwise try a cleaning cycle, and see if
that helps. If it's a HP or Lexmark printer, then try a new cartridge.

Wogster: It's not supposed to be printing any color but the black ink,
when all of a sudden a yellow nozzle turns on and stays on. That's an
electronic malfunction, not a dirty head.
