Swapping MIS Carts in Epson 1280

Swapping MIS Carts in Epson 1280

2004-09-19 by e5bowman

Hi,

I've been evaluating the MIS UT2 cartridges in an Epson 1280. I
have both the Eboni (matte) and Photo (glossy) black cartridges. I
started with the Eboni cartridge, then pulled it and substituted the
Photo black one, which I have been using for a few days.

My question is: Is it OK to now re-use the Eboni cartridge, or am I
likely to clog something? I put a piece of tape over the bottom
opening of it when I removed it.

Also - one more question: I have a C86 that I have been using the EZ
cartridges in as well. (I did this to decide if I liked the results
enough to look for a 1280.) I pulled the Epson color carts with a
few prints on them to install the MIS ones. I did not tape the
bottom of the cartridges, though, I just put them in Ziplock
baggies. (Probably not the best thing to do.) Should I now toss
these (ouch) or should I try re-installing them?

Thank you in advance,
Eric

There is no reason not to reuse the carts. It's done all the time. I
believe all the current MIS 1280 carts have poppet valves, just like
the Epson ones so it's not necessary to seal the bottom. But it never
hurts. I use one long strip of scotch tape to seal both the top and
bottom for long term storage.
