QTR profiles

Hi all,

Given the large amount of interest in in Roy's Quadtone Rip we've also had a
look at it and like it a lot. We're thinking of purchasing and integrating
it into our workflow.

Since we don¹t have the smarts, hardware or time to go through the process
of designing our own curves we have to rely on the work that others have
done.

The ones that come with the install are good but we were also wondering if
there is a central repository where people are willing to share their own
curves for particular inksets and papers?

We use an 1160 with MIS Variable Mix inks and a mixture of Legion Photo
Matte, Somerset Photo Enhanced (Velvet) and Concorde Rag papers. On OS X.3.5

It would be good to be able to assess the RIP with a thorough understanding
of just what kind of output is achievable.

We'd also like to pass on our thanks to Roy and the others who put
everything together. Even as it stands it's worth purchasing and it's likely
we'll do so anyway. :-)

I am running QTR on XP and 2200.I would like to be able to
softproof in PSCS but the file in Roy's web site specifically
mentions 'for 2.0 version only, will not work in 2.1" Is there a
version for 2.1.13? Where exactly are the QTR lab profiles on Roy's
site? Is QTR lab matte used to softproof matte papers only? Is there
a way to softproof luster or semigloss too?
Please correct me if I am wrong but doesn't this
converting to lab space simply place the grayscale file in a lab or
lab matte WORKING space? The only way to really softproof would have
to involve OUTPUT profiles created with ione for every paper ink
combination ,right? How does one get OUTPUT profiles for
softproofing if one does not own profiling equipment?

Have tried Roy Harrington's QTR software and like it. One concern is the limited number
of paper profiles. Is there a work around for this or does anybody have any advice as to
print on papers that have not been profiled?

Thanks.

Barry,
One of the really cool features of QTR is that you can make your own
profiles. It requires a spectrophotometer, densitometer or a scanner
and some patience to get through the learning curve, but then you can
custom make profiles for your printer, ink and papaer set up. Its
not too hard once you have done a few.
Some members of this group have posted some profiles for other paper,
I think. If your search, you may be able to find them.
Hope this helps.
Peter
