Quadtone RIP for Windows

Quadtone RIP for Windows

2004-10-07 by Peter Nelson

Now that the Quadtone RIP is available for Windows I thought I'd try
it. Before doing so I have some questions:

1. Are there any special "gotcha's" for running it in XP? On
another forum someone complained that it would not run when he wasn't
attached to his network. Anything else?

2. Does it alter or mess around with drivers or Registry settings
that would affect the way other programs - Photoshop, other RIPs,
etc, operate?

3. How does the output compare with other RIPs such as IP?

4. Does it UNinstall cleanly?

Thanks in advance.

Just follow the installation procedure to the last word and you´ll be fine.

No, not at all.

Sorry, can´t help you with that. The output is fantastic but I can´t compare
to IP since I have not used it.

I guess so.

1. You do have to have networking up and running. Some people without
permanent networks have had difficulties. There is a Microsoft Loopback
adapter that you can use for this situation.

You might appreciate a GUI interface rather than using the QTR scripts. See:
www.sbillard.org/Shareware/QTRgui.htm. This program also has a help file
that might aid you in using QTR. The program is freeware.

4. QuadToneRIP has no un-install routing. However, you can just delete the
files. Nothing is left behind. (QTRgui does uninstall cleanly.);

It isn't completely self-installing, you have to do a bit of setup of
the loopback adaptor, if you don't already have a network, and in
operation it is equally simple - drag & drop your QTR-prepared file
onto the printer file in Windows Explorer, just like regular file
handling or directly from the Open File menu in Photoshop or whatever
it is that you use to open image files.

The program installs like any simple file and installs over any
existing version when you upgrade. The GUI is a separate program that
installs quite simply, too, so I'd be willing to bet that they both
uninstall equally cleanly.

I've re-installed and upgraded both in XP without uninstalling the
earlier ones, too.

One caution for all QTR users - I've found some erratic handling of
non-alphanumeric symbols in the file names. Two of my files with an
"&" in the file names printed at one time, then stopped until I
renamed them without the &..

UT2 1280 and Premium Semigloss

2004-10-07 by Robert Krawiec

Hi All,

I've been using the UT2 inks in a 1280 with Paul
Roark's curves (nice job Paul!) and have been really
impressed with the result on Hahnemuhle photo rag, and
decided to try printing on Epson's semigloss paper.

I get a really nice dmax, prints look great, but I've
noticed these vertically aligned regularly spaced
(about 1mm or less) white dots. I'm guessing they are
from the guiding wheels but what's confusing me is
that they are getting progressively worse for
subsequent prints. HPR is still ok though.

Anyone else seeing this problem? Any fixes?

Thanks!

Rob

What does it use the network for? I run a 4 PC (3 Windows, 1 Linux)
network at home but I keep security settings very high - for both
inbound and outbound packets. Also, several of the PC's are
wireless.

Sounds like Pizza Wheels. See http://www.inkjetart.com/pizza/ for
instructions on removing them.

Carefully follow the instructions, it's not exactly plug & play :-)
Also you better use this http://www.sbillard.org/Shareware/QTRgui.htm

Not that I'm aware of.

Dunno, the results are very good so I don't need another RIP.

Now why would I want to do that :-D
