Harrington's QTR

Harrington's QTR

2004-10-11 by lkittle2002

What am I doing wrong?
I'm converting raw images in Photoshop Camera Raw;
Converting them to grayscale in Photoshop CS;
Saving them as 8 bit TIFFs and passing them on to the RIP,
BUT!
The pints are coming out looking like lavender duotones
or magenta duotines, NOT grayscale.
Where am I going wrong in my workflow?
Can someone help me with the very simplest workflow to get a
grayscale image OR the steps to save a TIFF intened for the QuadTone
RIP.

Thanks,
Loye

You should have a grey-scale image (say, Gray Gamma 2.2) and be using Same
as Source in the PS print menu

The QTR 1280 profiles are for the MIS UT2 inks - not the Epson inks.

Re: Harrington's QTR

2004-10-12 by bruce greene

QTR is designed to work with quadtone inksets or the 2200/ultrachrome
ink printers.

I don't see it making any improvement on your 1280 w/epson photo inks
vs. printing with the epson driver and selecting black ink only.

You need to use 3rd party greyscale inks to take advantage of QTR on
your printer.

-bruce

You could set up QTR to make a black ink only print with a little touch
of color, but you will have to make your own curves for it.

Actually, I think I'll try this on my old 1200!

I hate to tell you this, Bruce, but QTR is for color inks. I use it
with MIS 7600 color pigment inks in my 2200 - how else do you think it
can vary the tone of prints from cool to sepia?

QTR can be used with any ink set, including but not limited to the Epson UCs
and MIS quads with toners to manage the tonal range from cool selenium to
sepia....

That's what I meant to say when I mentioned "ultrachrome". ie. the 7600
and 9600 printers. QTR is not designed to print color images from these
printers though.

So we agree! I don't think you really hated to tell me that though:-)
