advice for newcomer to QTR

2004-11-12 by alnchiem

I own an epson 2100 and want to print using QTR. I tried installing
the windows XP version, but the installation woudln't even copy the
files over to the folders created.
I also have a Apple Powerbook, and could install QTR on that. Can
anyone tell me if the installation and subsequent use is easier on
Windows or Apple OSX ?

Many thanks in advance,
Andrew

QTR 2.1 is very easy to setup on the Mac with OSX. (my experience is
with Panther 10.3.x)

I am using it with the supplied profiles for Epson Enhanced Matte,
printing to various watercolor papers and getting very good results.

I don't have any experience with the Windows version.

Try QTR with the QTRgui, you get fantastic B&W prints with the standard
ink set.

I didn't even realise QTR 2.1 was for the Mac (i use 10.3.6), I thot
it was for win XP, and some earlier version was for the Mac. And
didn't realise the GUI worked on the Mac either; from the discussion,
I thot it was for Windows on users.
Another basic question - on the Mac, does QTR print via Photoshop CS
or do I have to use this Gimp software? I remember reading something
to that effect, but not sure if that as changed since.
Many thanks for the answers,
Andrew

I have the same question. I've downloaded QTR, getting ready to setup
my 1280, and have the same question as Andrew. I have Gimp installed
and have used it, briefly, but do not feel as confident using it as I do
PHotoshop.

No it does not...GUI is only for Windows. Mac doesn't need it!

QTR installs all the gimp software that you need.

On the Mac QTR prints via the OS Print Driver window - the window with all the pull-down
menus.

Danny, the QTR is a software that will produce B&W prints from a epson
2100/2200 (and other printers too) that have no colour cast. I believe
it does this by restricting the colour inks that are used to print
B&W. Although there are other software packages that can do this, QTR
is almost free, and does not require you to change to special inks.

 Andrew
