Dmax

Dmax

2004-11-14 by Mike McNamee

I keep hearing great things about the Dmax off Epson Ultra Smooth Fine
Art Paper. Anybody out there actually measured it? With Photo Black
Ultrachrome I am only measuring 1.36 Dmax.

Wouldn't it be more appropriate to use Ultrachrome Matte Black on that
paper, rather than Photo Black?

Yes it would but that was not the question; I'll re-phrase it, has
anybody measured both?

Re: Dmax

Mike,

measuring it is simple enough - or so it seems. If you try
to isolate the variables that contribute to maximum black
it's a bit trickier. I have assembled some numbers that
give you an idea of the "statistical" nature of this...

The whole point of the Epson uc matte black is to produce max blacks with rag and non-rc
matte papers.

The question is not which is better, it is "have you measured it?". I'll
mark yours down as a"no" then? Who cares? - I do, why else would I have
asked the question? You are making assumptions about why I want to know

want to
diddle then...

Just what is a "typical American"? In 50 plus years of living in America, I
don't think I've ever met one...

Re: [Digital BW] Dmax

2004-11-15 by Mike McNamee

This is getting out of hand, let me try and help.

My Ilford Studio RIP does not recognise the Matte Cartridge, in fact it
hangs the system. This has been amended in version 2 but the company is
experiencing a little local difficulty as we say in England. I am trying
to establish the Dmaxes for both or either Matte and Photo Black. I have
measured the Photo Black version at 1.36 which is a little low. I am
curious if I am alone, great claims are being made for the paper and I
am trying to see if they are justified. It has nothing to do with what
is best,. On other paper I find that switching from Photo to Matte
shifts the Dmax up by about 0.16 units which _might _place EUSFAP at
around 1.52, not bad but not earth shattering either.

Sorry for causing so much stress, I thought it was a simple enquiry!

It was a simple request and the fault for the OT idiocy is mine, not yours.

Sorry again. Guys, why don't you lambast me by email as I deserve and get this thread
back into---hmmm---darkness I guess, as in the Dmax sense of course.

Your poorly written response to Bailey's attempt to reach out negates your
earlier, ignorant statement... my very point, indeed...thank you!

1.35 or 1.55 Dmax is not worth talking about.A Xerox
copier from 1980 can do better than that. If you are
not at 1.75 you are know where.Francis Ford

The question is not which is better, it is "have you measured it?". I'll
mark yours down as a"no" then? Who cares? - I do, why else would I have
asked the question? You are making assumptions about why I want to know
rather than answering the question.

With a densitometer, colorimeter or spectrophotometer.

I get around 1.68/9 on EEM/HPR with the MK cartridge (with QTR). You could
try simply swapping the chip on the cartridge - placing the PK chip on the
MK cartridge.

Scott -

This is the same 'Richard' that made such an arse of himself on the Epson
Wide Format forum. Never has anything constructive to say. Just wants to
belittle everyone.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you consider attempting to stop off-topic discussion on USA politics is
not constructive then let us assume logic is being turned on it's head Mr
Turnip.

If you consider that attempting to initiate a discussion on the true
definition of fine art in Ink jet printing in much the same the same light
then one might be forgiven for considering you to be a sad and ignorant
twit.

You really are talking a load of old crap Mr Baker so in future keep it to
yourself will you.

Richard

Just what is a "typical American"? In 50 plus years of living in America, I
don't think I've ever met one...

You don't really want me to answer that question do you now? Anyway our
British colleague is getting some answers to his question so there is no
further need to continue this specific sub-thread.

I take it that you are admitting to making moronic and ignorant statements
