C84 catridges obsolete or becoming difficult to get ?

C84 catridges obsolete or becoming difficult to get ?

2004-12-05 by Aaron Good

This forum is very cool and thanks to all who are contributing, as it promplted me to get a refurb Epson C84 and order a set of the EZ inks preloaded in the C84 carts.

I've ordered from MIS 3 weeks ago, and have gotten three "any day now" messages informing me that the C84 carts are backordered and each target date for ship has been missed.

Anyone got a clue? did I purchase into a system that's going obsolete ?

I ordered some C84 carts from them recently and they were back-
ordered. It didn't take long for them to clear the B/O situation. I
don't think you have anything to worry about.

The C84 carts are the same as the carts I use in my C86, which is a
current model I believe, so I wouldn't worry about obsolesence.
They're supplying carts for *much* older printers!

I ordered a full set of the EZ inks from them on November 7th, only
to be emailed right away that they were on back order. (That info
should have been on the site, but at least they emailed promptly.)

The problem I'm having is that they've been promising them in
anywhere from "2 days from now" to "early next week" since then. I
understand (though am inconvenienced by) the backorder situation. My
frustration comes from not being given a clear answer on when they'll
ship the inks. If I'm not gonna get them on time, I need to go out
and buy some alternative Christmas presents!

I ordered my carts about a couple of weeks ago. I also got a message that they will
ship on the 29th of Nov. Since then nothing. I wish somebody from MIS would read
the forum and let us know what is happening.

I wish I would have known this before. I had heard all kinds of good
reports about MIS and about how well their order system worked so I picked
up a C86 and ordered the inks on the same day. Now I have an unpacked C86
that I really don't need without those inks.

November 7th ... and the inks will be coming in 2 days ... that's the same
story I'm getting but I haven't been waiting that long.

The order filling problems appear to relate to the supplier who fills the
cartridges. There was apparently construction at the filling facility, and
it's now completed. So the cartridges should be there soon. MIS will post
a note about this on its web page. They are trying to move this function
in-house to avoid these types of delays in the future.

The EZ inks are definitely not obsolete. The printer I use the most for
routine printing is the C86.

I got an email saying my eboni c86 cart was shipped yesterday, so
hopefully yours will allready be on its way or shipping soon.

You may want to send an email directly to MIS, or call, that way they
would be sure to get the message! :)

And a question to Paul and others using this system-- what settings
are you using in "print with preview," specifically "print space"? I
was using "stylus c85/c86 series" but got horrible banding from the
eboni position. A switch to gamma 2.2 and cured it, but I was
wondering if this is the optimal setting.

Thanks
john

I spoke w/ the MIS folks today. Turns out they were waiting merely
on the glossy black, so I had them send me the rest of the inks,
since I'm initially gonna be doing matte. I can wait for the glossy
black.

Thanks for the information. From all reports, this will be nice enough
that I'm willing to have patience.
