QTR - QTRgui won't access printer. Help a newbie?

QTR - QTRgui won't access printer. Help a newbie?

2004-12-18 by spamzany2003

Please help me before I shoot myself.

I'm running
  QTR v2.1b
  QTR v2.1.5
  Win XP Home SP2
  Sharing is on
  Name is Quad2200
  Loopback adapter on
  Printer port is USB
Tif files appear to load into GUI OK

I am not getting anything out of the printer. The last line of the log
file reads
'unable to write raster data to driver!'

I have down loaded the latest Epson drivers. Uninstalled reinstalled.
Downloaded sp2 and installed, spent several hours talking with a nice
Microsoft tech support gentleman in India getting the printer sharing
functioning (service was turned off). I don't know what to try next.
Any help if GREATLY appreciated. I'm trying to print BW photos for
everyone this Christmas and the Epson metamerism is spoiling my good
work. Imageprint is only a last resort.

Thanks

When that happened to me, it turned out that I did not have the printer
shared properly, even though I thought I did.

I suggest you check the sharing status again.

Other than that I don't know what might cause that symptom.

Check to see if you have firewall or Anti-virus that is blocking printer
sharing.

Re: QTR - QTRgui won't access printer-Possible solution

2004-12-19 by fredila2

I had a similar problem until this morning. Drove me nuts.

I originally tried to run QTR in a similar setup as the one you
describe below. Tried everything without success. I even installed
a print server in the hope that it might solve the problem...but it
did not.

Finally hit upon the right combination of stuff.

Since I am running a print server, I needed to manually configure
QTRGui (using "Configure Printer Manually" under "Options" in the
QtrGui tool bar.) I set it to the print server name instead of the
Epson 2200 printer.

Then in Windows "Printers and Faxes" I set the Epson 2200
to "Shared" and gave it the share name of Quad2200.

Finally, I added the QTRgui program as an "Exception" to the Windows
Firewall (on the "Exceptions" tab using the "Add Programs" option.)

That did it. Now I can print thru QtrGui.

Hope some of this helps.

Regards,

Fred Rothenberg

Re: QTR - QTRgui won't access printer - Bummed out..

I can't go as far as purchasing a print server since I only have one
computer. But I did enter QTR and QTRgui as exceptions in SP2
firewall. I tried entering the host and shared names manually but
nothing is working. I'll probably have to bite the bullet and buy
Imageprint tomorrow. Ouch.

You might try turning off the firewall completely and see if that allows
it to work. If it doesn't, then you don't have a firewall problem.

And you should not need a print server to get this to work. I have (I
think) the same setup as you have and it works fine. I still suspect
you have something setup incorrectly in the sharing, or in the networking.

Dave,
I have the same setup as you except for the 4000 printer and W2K, and
I get the exact same error! Even a had a C++ developer look at it
and after hours we could not get it to work... Bummer!
His feedback was more explicit instruction are needed or my computer
is really screwed up ...

If you get it working (or anyone else) please contact me at
stevebrink@...!! I need it ASAP for a show in March ...

Fred,
What does it take to install a print server?

Re: QTR - QTRgui won't access printer

Has anyone seen this error with W2K and potential fixes...?

'unable to write raster data to driver!'

Does W2K have a firewall feature similar to XP that will not allow
writing data to printer port...?

Thanks in advance!

Let me join the club....
I get a windows error when I try to print.
Using qrtgui to drop files onto to attempt to print.

AppName: quadtoprinter.exe AppVer: 0.0.0.0 ModName:
quadtoprinter.exe
ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 00026679

I disabled firewall settings, anti-vrus, etc. Still no luck.

You need to purchase a fairly inexpensive piece of equipment. Mine
is a Trendnet TE100-P2U1P. It's a box about 4x6 and 2" high. You
can connect 2 USB printers directly to the box and an Ethernet cable
from the box to an Ethernet connection on the back of your
computer. You can then follow the setup instructions provided with
the print server. I'm really not an expert and had some assistance
with the set-up.
