VM Curves for papers other than EAM

VM Curves for papers other than EAM

2001-11-12 by Chris Hargens

I've searched the archive and looked at the MIS site. I haven't seen
any VM curves available for papers other than EAM. I gather that
there are some papers, like Museo, that give good results with the VM
curves for EAM with a little tweaking. Anyone have a list of what
papers might/probably would react similarly?

Chris,

The standard curves should work with a large number of papers with
some overall tweaking of the image. I have used the curves with
Legion Photo Matte, Brightcube Eclipse Satine and Velvet, Hahnemule
Photo Rag, Crane Museo. Usually the addition of a Brightness/Contrast
or Curves adjustment layer will allow you do adjust your image to a
different paper.

Silverfast problem

2001-11-14 by Bruce Kinch

I've mostly been lurking here as I get my digital printing set-up in
order-and delighted by the information I've picked up.

I recently got a Polaroid SS4000, and have had no problem with their
software or with Vuescan in scanning BW negatives in grayscale.
However, in "graduating" to Silverfast 5 Ai, I find that I am getting
distinct "posterization" of tonalities. I downloaded the current
version, but no improvement. As Silverfast has innumerable options, I
may have something set wrong. Anyone with ideas on what might be
causing this?

Bruce,

Setting up Silverfast can be very confusing and the manual really
doesn't walk you through it properly. Go through the tutorials
written by Ian Lyons at his website:

Hopefully that will get you on track.

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
