Print Exchange Summary

Print Exchange Summary

2001-11-14 by Shaun Granleese

Hey folks,

it's nice to see that many people got their prints at the same time,
gotta love that FedEx :-) I'm amazed that there is another exchange
half filled up already.... I'm even more amazed that I want to sign
up! Scott, if you see this can you add me?

My words of wisdom, such as they are:

- read Jason DeFontes' advice carefully, it's posted in the files
area
- despite hammering on core rules (package able to handle A4,
sleeves mandatory etc.) a number of participants didn't comply and
much repacking was required. Bottom line: it's astounding that 32
individuals from at least 4 countries could cooperate to this
extent, don't sweat the small stuff.
- manage your waiting list carefully, there will be over-keen
signups that need to drop out, some at the last minute. To avoid
frustration make sure you have even more enthusiastic individuals
ready to step in.
- offer a spot in the exchange as a courtesy to the coordinator of
the last exchange, Siobhan McClory participated in mine and Jason
DeFontes may want to participate next time.
- 40 prints wouldn't be too much to coordinate, doesn't really
matter once you set up the system; 40 might be too many for the
participants though.
- if prints need to go through customs, make sure participants
attach a minimal value ($1); I ended up paying taxes on several
packages that participants had innocently labelled with an estimated
value based on paper/inks etc.

A very cool experience in all, more work than I expected but it was
satisfying to have been a cog in the wheel of evolution!

Best,

Shaun,

Congratulations on surviving the exchange! Sounds like it was a big success,
I wish I'd had the time to participate. Maybe I'll get in on the next one...

Cheers,

-Jason
