Trouble with C86 and EZW cartridges

Trouble with C86 and EZW cartridges

2004-12-25 by veniero2002

I received a C86 as an early Christmas present a couple of days ago.
I am using it with a set of warm tone MIS cartridges. The system
worked just fine for a couple of days and the prints exceeded my
expectations. When I last turned the printer off yesterday the "cyan"
cartridge appeared almost full on the monitor. Today, however, it all
of a sudden reads "empty". I have only printed about 15 8.5X11
prints, and there is obviously quite a bit of ink left in the
cartridge (I can hear it splashing). Is there any remedy for this
issue? Interestingly, yesterday I got an error message about the
cartridges not being recognized. I "cancelled" and did not seem to
have any problem after that.

Thanks in advance for your help.

This sounds like a cartridge chip problem. You might see if the OEM
Durabrite ink cart reads correctly. That might indicate whether it's the
cart or printer that is having trouble.

Thanks for the advice Paul. Unfortunately I don't have an OEM
cartridge to try that. I guess I will probably have to get a new MIS
cartridge. Given the cost of a cartridge I would hesitate to continue
using the system if that type of problem is frequent. It would be
just too expensive. I have to say that the tonality was quite
spectacular, though.

Regards, Spyros.

All you need is a oem cart and replace/swap the chip to the MIS one. Then when the chip shows empty just use a sw to reset it.

There's always the refill cartridge option.

You don't have any of the original color cartridges that came along with
the C86 lying around? It's pretty easy to pry off a chip and put it on the
MIS cartridge.

I have the CFS system and I can see that black and cyan are the inks that
get used the most. Yellow doesn't seem to have budged and magenta only a
little.

Thank you all for your suggestions. I ordered a new "cyan" cartridge
from MIS, as well as a replacement chip. I hope that this will work.
I have to say, the prints and tonality are phenomenal with this
setup, in spite of my lack of experience, really a very easy system
to start with. It just makes it very hard to go back to a wet
darkroom.

RE: [Digital BW] Trouble with C86 and EZW cartridges

2004-12-26 by Paul Roark

Spyros,

Take a look at the bottom of my C86 Readme file at
http://home1.gte.net/res09aij/C86-EZ-UT-Readme.htm. I have a section on
minimizing costs. I have reset MIS chips many times, but there are a
certain number of chips that are defective.

Thanks for the advice Paul. Unfortunately I don't have an OEM
cartridge to try that. I guess I will probably have to get a new MIS
cartridge. Given the cost of a cartridge I would hesitate to continue
using the system if that type of problem is frequent. It would be
just too expensive. I have to say that the tonality was quite
spectacular, though.

Regards, Spyros.
