I honestly don't understand all the "mystery" surrounding quality digital B&W
photographs. Reminds me of the Zone System's evolution to a near-cult status
that perplexed Ansel Adams. It's pretty easy to do actually.

All you are trying to do is get a printable density range on a piece of paper
ranging from .05 to 2.15.......less for matte papers.

Expoxing and processing a 7-stop luminance range in the studio or with
available window light is a piece of cake for a Canon Digital Rebel and an $80 50mm
f/1.8 prime lens with enough sharpness to make an 8x10 that looks as grainless
as a scanned 6x7 Tmax 100 negative (without all the dust bunnies).

Annie Lennox is a rank amateur photographer with money and fame as a singer.
I don't get the ooh and ah over an image that any good portrait photographer
can produce 1,000 times a day without a blink.

In the abstolute sense, perhaps, but relative to teaching with old 4x5
cameras and Polaroid film........a digital Rebel with a 50mm f/1.8 lens, it's an
affordable investment. Taking one picture costs the same as taking 1,000. The
only costs are shutter wear and batterry recharge.

The rest is time and that is the best teacher of all. So, I guess more
EFFICIENT equipment can make a better photographer.......................all other
things being equal.

It works!

2005-01-03 by Stan McQueen

I got home last night from my Christmas/New Year's vacation and download the
new version of QTR w/GUI from Roy's site and installed it (after
uninstalling and deleting the old version). Now it works great with both my
2200 and 7600 (even cutting off the roll paper). It even printed an image
that was stored on my Linux server and accessed via a mapped drive from my
PC. Thanks very much to both Roy and Stephen for their diligent efforts in
making this program useful. I will probably continue to use the Imageprint
RIP on my 7600, but now QTR has given my a way to print the same
metamerism-free b&w photos on my 2200. That will be very handy when I need
to print an image that doesn't need the full 24 inch width that the 7600
provides. My $ contribution will be on the way soon!

Thanks again,
Stan
