Moab Paper

2005-01-08 by Owen P. Evans

Good day to everyone,
First of all I'd like to introduce myself to the group. My name is Owen
Evans and I live in Ottawa, the nation's capital of Canada. I've been a
lurker for a very long time and I have learned an enormous amount about B&W
digital printing from everyone who posts here! Thankyou very much for the
education!
Like a lot of you I have worked at my photography for a long time ( over 40
years in my case ). I had to convert from chemicals to bits & bytes back in
the 90's and I don't regret it for a moment. My adventure in photography has
been prolonged as a result of all the new technology of the past 10 years!
(for me anyway)

To the point: Has anyone had any experience with Moab Papers? Specifically,
Kokopelli Photo Gloss?
I read about this paper in Photoshop User ( official magazine of the
National Association of Photoshop Professionals ) It received 5 out of 5
stars and I want to print some B&W 8x10's on glossy paper, but I haven't
had the success that I've had with Matte paper.
Any inputs would be helpful.
I use a 2200 with Epson Inks and I shall be trying Mr. Harrington's QuadTone
RIP in the near future. [ I waited until it became easy to install ;-) ]
Maybe even venture into MIS inks later? All of this is in a PC dedicated to
my digital darkroom.

Thanks for any help, ( in advance )
Owen

Owen,

I have used Moab Entrada Bright White and it is wonderful stuff.
Great Dmax and great color. Works well with BW and toned images
too. A plus is that it is coated on both sides, so if you wanted,
you could a booklet or whatever. Good value. QTR and IJC/OPM work
well with these papers.

Sorry, I haven't used Kokopelli Gloss.

I've had good results with Moab Entrada Fine Art 190, also
coated both sides. However, I learned I had to thoroughly
wipe it with a clean, soft cloth before printing, to avoid
"flakes" (dandruff-size pieces of coating that sluff off after
printing, exposing the white base).
