Hello gang, Does anyone know for sure if the Media Street Royal Renaissance (Photo Rag) is the same as or their rebranded version of the Hahnemühle Photo Rag? They seem as though they would be the same, but thought I would check before ordering. Those using either of the above, how do you like it in comparision to the Legion Photo Matte? Looking for something a hair less white than the Legion Photo Matte, but with the same surface. TIA, Terry

Before Photo Rag really hit the shelves I asked Media Street if they'd be carrying it, because they are my favorite source for (rebranded) Hahnemühle papers. Their reply was something like "well, we'll have our Royal Renaissance. Well send you a couple of sheets to test", which they graciously did. Likewise Digital Art Supplies sent me a couple of sheets of Hahnemühle Photo Rag to test. Sure look like the same stuff to me. > Those using either of the above, how do you like it in comparision to > the Legion Photo Matte? It's not as smooth as Photo Matte, and the paper white is not as cool, but to my subjective taste it's got a more quality feel. The substrate itself anyway, but both are capable of yielding fine images. It's what I'll be using too for "final prints". All the Hahnemühle papers that I've tried are top notch IMO, and Media Street is the cheapest, and their service has been very good for me so far. You should request a sample, most places will send one or two letter sized sheets for you to print on. Todd

Todd, Thanks for the reply, I took your advice and requested the samples, but it sounds like your description is what I am looking for. I also look to Media Street for the rebranded versions since they have excellent service and pricing. Photoinkjet.com was another possibility, but the have removed all of the Hahnemühle papers from their site and seemed to have replaced them with the Reflexion line of papers that also seem to be rebranded Hahnemühle. The Dresden paper appears to be the Photo Rag equivalent, and is just a hair cheaper than Media Street Royal Renaissance. Hmm... When I phoned mediastreet about the Royal Renaissance, they said it was indeed the Hahnemuhle Photo Rag but with a unique coating spec'd for their inksets. Other paper resellers have disputed that Hahnemuhle coats their papers in a special way for different vendors. Who knows? PhotoInkjet.com has the paper at a lower price, at least for 50 ct. 13x19 sheets. The difference between Photo Rag and Legion Photo Matte is, to me, even greater than the pricing gap. Photo Rag has a wonderful fine art texture, but still produces the sharpest prints I've seen. Great image depth, good tonal range, rich blacks, and a choice of paper weights. Paper base is not as bright as the Legion. With Piezo inks it is also warmer than the Legion. Similar in feel to a toned silver print. This is my primary choice for Piezo unless I need the more nuetral tone or softness of Somerset Velvet (uncoated).

Would that be what they call Dresden? http://www.photoinkjet.com/cgi-bin/media/detail.cgi?item=H-PRWS3081319 If so you are right. It'd be $173 , vs just shy of $190 from Mediastreet Todd

Just this week the web site link switched to their "new" German line, Reflexion. It would seem Dresden is their rebranded Photo Rag. I'm calling in an order next week and will confirm it with them then. FWIW I've had nothing but good experiences with both Kame and Anders. Both extremely knowledgeable and helpful with orders/queries. Amadou Diallo
