On Paul's recommendation, I order the C86, going to get a set of
cart. and EZ-N inkset soon.

Since a lot of people are very concern about (bronzing with) this ink
on glossy paper.... so has anyone try the Epson Durabrite glossy ??

Thanks

I tried and was very unimpressed with Epson Durabrite glossy paper. I think
the Costco paper beats it easily.

Hi Paul, thanks again.

From what I found, searching the web; many people claimed that the
Costco glossy paper is made by Ilford, Switzerland. And they said
it's like Galerie Smooth Paper paper.

From Switzerland, (I think) there're two Co.; Ilford and Folex......
so what are your thoughts?

well, the costco is definitely not ilford smooth. Ilford smooth has
very much more bronzing. And it's a weird kind of bronzing that has
diferent colors in it. Gold colors......Dm

Personally, I don't thinko it's Ilford either.

From my research, Ilford has a plant in England and Germany. I
haven't seen any mention of a plant in Switzerland.

I have a feeling it's Folex in Switzerland that makes the Kirkland
Glossy paper.

I think we got the idea that Ilford paper came from Switzerland from
the label on the box that says "Manufactured in Switzerland"

I think the Costco paper is probably made by the Swiss Ilford group (old
Ciba, I believe). However, the paper is new and unique. One older batch of
Costco paper actually had an Epson logo on the back. The paper also has the
buffered interior paper, which is rather unique to the Epson Premium group
of paper. This all made me think Epson was involved. I've also heard
Ilford makes some of the Epson paper. So, the paper may be a product that
is made by Ilford and licenses some Epson technology.

But it's all guessing.

The bottom line the paper is about the best glossy paper made. I have no
doubt both Ilford and Epson will, in the future, have papers that also use
this technology.

Hey Paul

I'm sure I missed this somewhere - What's the guess on Kirkland's archival stability?

Thanks

Based on the "acid-free" interior paper, I'd *guess* the Costco paper has
the same stability as the Epson Premium papers, which Wilhelm rates as
having a dark storage life of ">200 years."

You're saying Ilford paper has Made in Switzerland printed on the box?
I don't know, I've never looked at the package.

I haven't use Ilford IJP, only the "wet" papers.

Thanks Hans.

That changes everything.

I went to Ilford's web-site a week ago and didn't
notice "Switzerland".

Funny, they's sell a private brand that was better than their own
paper.

Hmmmmmm......

I will try and get some specific info on the Kirkland Paper. I know some of
the buyers at the Costco Headquarters which just down the street from me.
I'll ask me wife to do some digging too. She is a Financial Analyst who
follows Costco stock and she knows most of the corporate leadership very
well.

RE: [Digital BW] C86

Hi,

Regarding Ilford...

They have their "digital plant" in Marly, near Fribourg (home of the cheese
fondue!) here in Switzerland, about 100 km from Geneva where I live...

Ilford's "traditional plant" is in England, but as far as I know it won't be
for long...

I have a hard time understanding why Ilford would put out paper under a
different name, given their prestige in the photographic industry.

Thanks Hans.

That changes everything.

I went to Ilford's web-site a week ago and didn't
notice "Switzerland".

Funny, they's sell a private brand that was better than their own
paper.

Hmmmmmm......

The DuraBright paper should print well with the C86/EZ combo. There is some

Ilford also has a high quality, printable, 2005 calendar featuring old

Jose,

Couldn't it be a trial ? Testing technologies in real without taking the risk to destroy their reputation if something wrong ? It won't be too late to produce the product under their name if it works and nobody would know.

Larry, thanks for helping out.

If not for some reason that cannot disclose... then I think the best
method will be someone who have the Kirkland paper, Ilford and Folex
paper to test it for confirmation.

TIA

If you read the second paragraph of their latest press release (on
www.ilford.com) you will see that:

"ILFORD Imaging has two major manufacturing companies based in the UK and
Switzerland. The UK business, based in Mobberley, Manchester, where it
employed some 740 people, principally manufactures traditional monochrome
photographic supplies. The Swiss manufacturing company, based in Marly,
develops and manufactures digital inkjet products. The Swiss business is
not in any form of insolvency and continues to trade normally. The ILFORD
Group (“Group”) employs a further 310 people in subsidiary businesses in
the USA, Europe and Australia."

The tradition products (film and traditional photographic papers) has
financial problems. The digital/inkjet division is doing just fine and is
not affected.
