http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?
O=productlist&A=details&Q=&sku=250019&is=REG

I noticed Wilhelm has rated it at >400 years.

UC ink test is in progress.

Thanks,

It's a plain, white Epson paper.
It's probably too thin for photographs, but I wonder about the make-
up since it has OBA.

RE: [Digital BW] Paul: Paper question

2005-01-19 by Paul Roark

Interesting. I had not seen the 400 year dark storage estimate. I wonder
if we'll see the fade resistance numbers soon. I tried and tested Arches
Hot Press, and found that it did not do as well as the coated papers in
terms of lightfastness.

It's interesting that Epson puts this in the R800 test. My estimate has
been that the R800 dot size will finally allow really good uncoated paper
printing. Maybe they think so to.

I may have a sample of this paper (but finding it will be a challenge).

RE: [Digital BW] Paul: Paper question

2005-01-19 by Paul Roark

OK, I found the sample Epson "Premium Brught White Paper." We'd call it
copy paper if we didn't know better. It is thin, un-coated, and looks like
any other cheap copy paper. The Eboni dmax in a 1280 is 1.45. The ramp is
a bit on the blotchy side, but not as bad as most uncoated paper I've tried.

I would not consider this a serious photo paper.

The Wilhelm report below is worth reading if for no other reason than to see
him trash the Kodak fade test procedures.

Thanks, Paul.

At $9/500sheet, I'll give it a try.

If I don't like it, I can always use it in my laser printer! LOL!

Kodak, Agfa, AgfaPhoto

At the bottom of that R800 report Wilhelm also mentions that
Agfa is now split up in 2 companies:

The German one (AgfaPhoto GMBH) is allowed to use the Agfa
vignet + the name Agfa for a transitional period and it will
produce the analogue Color + B&W materials (+ run the labs
etc) in the future, that company adapted the Kodak fade test
criteria, so be warned about their fade figures for color
photography.

The Belgian Agfa-Gevaert NV produces the inkjet papers and
will continue to use the 450 lux etc ISO standard that Wilhelm
also uses. The much more severe test. It also uses the Agfa
vignet with the name Agfa. That company licenses the Agfa
brand name + vignet to the German company for the time being.

I guess the German company fades before its papers hence the
lower criteria they use.

All in all a confusing situation that will harm both companies
+ the brand name Agfa.

Fade resistance of B&W, both digital and analogue is of
another order but I guess the list members are not completely
B&W devoted.
