Rate of UT2 ink use in 1280 and QTR

Rate of UT2 ink use in 1280 and QTR

2005-01-30 by robert_ardinger

Hello,

I tried a search and could not readily find the answer I was looking
for although I think I did read a post with it some time back.

My question is about the rate of ink usage between the black (eboni)
UT2 cartridge and the "color" 5 inks UT2 cartridge. Specifically I
want to order these inks efficently and wonder if I should get more
of the 5 ink cartridges than the black one.

I use a PC, WIN Home, 1280, UT2 inks and the Quadtone QTR for
windows RIP. I am on my first set of ink cartridges and it appears
the 5 color one is depleting faster than the black one. My images
are mostly of average tones, not too light (high key)(which should
use less ink) nor mostly dark (i.e. night images with large areas of
blacks).

I know the answer is not going to be very precise but in general do
individuals using the 1280/UT2 set up go through the black ink more
than the 5 color one, the 5 color one more than the black one or
both about the same? (i.e. would I be better of with getting 2
blacks per 3 five color, etc.)

Thanks, Robert

The same thing happens for me using a 1280 and UT2. (WXP PRo, PS or
QTR) The color cart is 'out of ink' in PS long before the Eboni. In
addition, there was enough ink left in the 'out of ink' cart to leak
the darkest color cart ink into the plastic bag i stored it in, so
the Epson monitor is reading the 'most empty' reservoir as usual.

For my initial use it might have been as high as 1.5-2 color carts to
one Eboni. I don't use 'Carbon' much, preferring UT2-EEM neutral and
Matte Paper. It might differ if you use a different ink limit. I
have now found that if i want my screen images (Gray Lab workspace)to
match the QTR 'EEM-neutral' prints i need to use -40 Ink Limit, which
i expect will change my relative ink use.
