MIS UT vs. UT7 in a 2200 with QTR

MIS UT vs. UT7 in a 2200 with QTR

2005-02-04 by guy_staley

Are these inks different, or is it just their positions in the printer that differ?

I'm not having much luck with the Roark curves and UT7 in a 2200. On the
MIS site, they say that UT7 can't be used with QTR, but it seems that it's only
their relative positions in the printer that differ, or are these pigs physically
different. In other words, with proper re-chipping, is it possible to use the UT7
inks in Roy's QTR workflow?

Additionally, from what I can understand, QTR can work with ANY inkset given
proper profiling. Is this correct? Dang, I'm pretty good in a fume room, but I'm
afloat in the great blue when it comes to my "digital transition".

I am confused. I thought I read on the MIS site that the UT7 were not
to be used with QTR. Can someone please clarify this?

Thank you!

"UT7 Works great With QTR" is not a very helpful reply. I also
failed to find anything about QTR/UT7/2200 on this forum, therefore
I am still using curves in PS. Cound anyone post more details about
it?

Following is the inkset I'm currently using in my 2200:

K - MIS Eboni black
LK - MIS Glop
C - MIS UT PKN (neutral)
LC - MIS UT7 LM cool gray
M - MIS PK (warm)
LM - MIS UT7 LC warm gray
Y - MIS UT7 Y Sepia

Does it all for me:
Three possible BO inks on matte (Eboni) or RC (PKN or PK)
sepia, warm, cool, or neutral on either matte or RC papers
glop for elimination of bronzing on RC papers

All of above with either QTR or IJC profiles.

Carl, I asked about UT7 inkset on 2200 printed through QTR. Your set
is quite different. I used QTR before for the Epson standard color
inks and it worked acceptable, but with bronsing. My understanding
is that QTR curves were created for UC inks and for UT7 it should be
different, right? I was hoping that anyone could post more insights
about which profile to use for UT7, where to get it from, may be
some instructions about creation of curves.

There are some UT7/2200 profiles on Roy's site for the Mac, but I don't
know if the .quad files have been included in the PC release. Link to
The Mac UT7 profiles are on this page:
