FS ink density compared to Piezo

FS ink density compared to Piezo

2001-11-17 by Paul Roark

For those who have used both Piezo and MIS FS inks, how would you compare
the density of the prints. Are the FS prints about the same
density/darkness as the Piezo prints, somewhat lighter, or darker?

Paul,
Visually it appears that the prints are close to identical in range
and FS is able to achieve the same darkness in the 90-100% parts of
the image. I was able to print the same image using the Piezo
driver using the same profiles for both inks without any adjustment
to the image. Thus far, I've been extremely happy with the results
of the MIS FS inks.

Take a look at my submission of the Lamb's Ear plant in Shawn's
recent print exchange, the ink is MIS FS and I would say that the
black achieved in the 99-100% areas in the bottom left of the print
is equal to Piezo.

PAUL,

In comparing the MIS FS inks on the 7000 with a CFS and the Piezo
inks run through carts, the densities appear to be very similar. I
printed out the 21 setp tablet using the PiezoBW24 Rip and compared
it with the Piezo wedge. WIth the exception of a slighter more
neutral color of the FS inks, the patched appeared to be very
sililar. The curve of the MIS FS inks is just a bit more linear which
is a good thing as I always felt that the Piezo inks were designed to
compress the shadow densities.

I printed a set of 6 very soft high key Calla Lilly images this
weekend and compared them to the Piezo prints of the same images. The
result was very similar with a slight edge in detail to the MIS FS
inks.

If Bob could produce these inks with just a slightly more neutral
tone I think that they would be a huge success.
