Why is the 1200 not supported by so many of the workflows that include the 1280? Is it that much different? thanks, John

There's less of an incentive to produce support for the newer inks. I have one here, used as a backup for printing colour. If I wanted to use if for B&W, what would be the best inkset to use? Steve, I have a 1200 set up with Piezzotone Carbon Sepia and it works great. I've had no cloggs or banding or any issue, though I don't use it a lot. I'm sure the MIS quads will work great on it too. I really don't see a lot of difference in output from the 1270-80 machiines and the 1200. However, the tolerances between these older machines were far more different from unit to unit than the Ultrachrome printers are. The 1200 is also a fairly slow printer. I used the 1200 with UT1 and the blacks weren't nearly as dense as my new 2100 plus UC inks - the earlier MIS inks had curves that were designed specifically for that printer, but using those curves with UT1 inks yielded disappointing results from me ... and I gave up in the end because of clogs, anyway. Steve, Last week I finished printing a series of BO photos on my 1200. I used the Eboni ink on Dot Works Nature Jet paper. This is a 100% cotton paper with no coatings. I used it because I had a supply at hand. I am really pleased with the results. I started my B&W printing around Christmas with a C84 and the EZ-N inkset and was very pleased with them, but I wanted some larger versions of the prints too. Thus my experiment with the 1200 and BO. To my eye the 11X16.5 BO prints from the 1200 looked similar to the difference between an 8X10 from a 35mm negative and an 11X14 from the same negative. In this case I was comparing the 10X6.6 EZ-N prints to the 11X16.5 Eboni BO prints. Successful experiment, and I'm sure I will be printing more. One advantage to the 1200 is that they can be bought used on eBay very reasonably.
