Dmax on 1160 with UT ink set

Dmax on 1160 with UT ink set

2005-02-21 by rm9789

I'm using QTR on my 1160 with UT inks on Epson Heavyweight Matte.
Although the density of the darkest K patch on the calibration target
was 1.73 the density measured at 100% of the 21 step wedge after
calibration only comes to 1.65.

I picked 80% as a default ink limit. I seems that I should be able to
achieve at least 1.70 which was the density of 80% patch on the
calibration target.

Should I keep poking around or are here other forces at play :) ?

Thanks in advance,

Roman

Hi Roman,

I'm also using the 1160 for the two MIS inksets: VM and UT-FS. Here
are the measurements on Epson Matte Heavy Weight:

Calibration target:
MIS-VM: 1.55
MIS-UT-FS: 1.61

Linearized target:
MIS-VM: 1.57
MIS-UT-FS: 1.61

I actually got a slight gain in dmax for the VM ink but it could be
just media/ink-absorption variation. So chances are your ink limit
maybe set too high. I used the default of 70% as suggested by QTR and
it seems to work fine. Also make sure you set density levels for each
of the gray ink so that they don't run too far into the darkest region
causing a reduction in dmax.

Thanks, Nick

I feared that my choice of 85% was too high. Too eager to get higher
Dmax without sufficient understanding <g>

Will give lower limit a try.

Best regards,
