graphics card question

graphics card question

2005-02-27 by Alex Asbridge

Hello All,
I'm new to the list and a recent "gradual" convert to the digital
world.
I am building a computer for my digi-dark room and am hoping to get
input regarding a graphics card.

I am not a gamer and have no interest in video but do wish to work
with
scanned negatives and print large negatives and prints.

I hope this is not considered off topic, but could you direct me
toward an appropriate graphics card sans the whiz-bang gaming and
video capabilities that I don't believe I need.

I am planning to use an ASUS A7V600 mobo, AMD Athlon XP3000 cpu.

Thank you for your help. If this indeed is way off topic, I will
accept a note to that effect and take this question elsewhere.

Alex

Take a look at Matrox. Excellent quality 2D, nice wide bandwidth DACs, good
choice of models, including quad output if that's your bag.

If you're not into gaming, almost any of the mid-range Nvidia or ATI
cards with 64-128MB on board will do just fine. You might get the
dual-output version in case you decide you want to run two displays.
You should be able to get a decent card for under 125.00, even at
Comp USA.
