Seth, I print to the size I want and then cut the mat to provide a "float" border which is usually 10 mm sides and top and 15 mm bottom. I use metric for measurement for easier measurement and, also, I'm a retired chemist and feel more comfortable with metric.

Subject: Printing for mat sizes

I am curious how (or if) folks print for mat sizes.

If you print a 5x7, 8x10, 11x14, etc., do you make it that size? Or, do you
print it 1/4" smaller on each side (like photo easels used to do) so that it
"fits" stock mats?

Ian. Metric is more comfortable in All cases. :-)
