QTR roll on Mac

QTR roll on Mac

2005-03-15 by Scott Graham

As far as I can tell QTR printing on roll paper from a Mac, 10.3.8, doesn't work period.

the USB patch doesn't help at all. Did finally get the conflict that was killing the std drivers
from working though.

Some details on previous message (std on FW, QTR on usb). A zilion reinstalls, perm
repairs,etc.

Any info out there?

Scott

Scott,

I'm running QTR with OS 10.3.8 and printing on roll paper without
problems. I use one USB connection for both QTR and the Epson drivers
with the 4000. Which paper sizes are you trying to use with roll
printing and are you sure you are selecting roll feed in the QTR
driver? Why do you need a firewire connection for the Epson drivers?

Hope the 4000 is not connected at the sametime with Firewire and USB...you could
damage the printer.

UT2 Glop on Matte or rag paper?

2005-03-15 by Douglas Meeuwsen

Hmmmmm....i just realized that I dont have a system for using the
Ut2/Glop with matte or rag papers.....spose I could just try it, but
(mr.R) is there a set of curves for this?
Thanks in advance, Doug M

Scott,

Epson doesn't say anything (that I can find) about connecting a printer simultaneously
with both usb and firewire ports. It doesn't buy any functionality so why not
simplify and leave out the firewire. USB is plenty fast for what the printer can
handle. (I think Tiger/Print System will support firewire so then QTR will too).

The only thing I think is an issue with roll paper is that there is a minimum
length of 7 inches. Info is very vague about a hardware limit.

Doug,

Except for the sepia curve (obviously), all the other UT2 curves work fine
with Glop installed.

Re: QTR roll on Mac

I tried both drivers on USB and still had problems. But it was such a long nasty day that
maybe at that time I was still stuck by the short custom test paper? 4 inches won't work,
but 6 will as I found out later, on the std drivers anyway. Sure would be nice to get an
error message at 4 inches.

Also, my impression was that FW is more trouble free. Am I wrong? I wasn't worried
about speed.

Oh, do you mean a 7 inch limit with QTR? that would explain something because the same
"style of print failures" that I was getting with 4 inches on the std driver is what I got with
6 inches on QTR. That would be a happy discovery, The 7ness I mean.

Roy,

I'm working out of the latest version of Panther with QTR and the 9600 and the
roll feature works fine, once you find the setting. But, I am using USB not
Firewire. I believe the firewire connection is just going to send the file over
there faster right? Not increase the actual print head movement itself right?
Yes its very slow but very outstanding output for toned monochrome.

I'm pretty sure I read an Epson document that mentioned do not connect Firewire and USB
together for possablity of damage. Or it could have read not connecting two computers at
the same time to the Epson 4000 via USB and Firewire.

But in any case there really is no need to connect both at the same time. USB will send data
faster than the printer can use. Firewire is about 40x faster than USB, it would be great if
the printer could work 40x faster.

Re: QTR roll on Mac

Hi John,

Yes, the firewire connection is unlikely to speed up the printing.
You might find it useful to try other options to speed up printing.
For resolution there's 1440dpi and 1440super which are 4pass and 8pass
respectively. The 8pass is more immune to banding but your printer
may do very well with 4pass -- I think many of the Pro printers can.
The other thing is the Faster/Better for bi-directional/uni-directional
printing -- again try it.

In the longer run I am looking at trying to improve the speed in general.

Roy

This is in response to the 4000 with fire wire and usb hookup, I have a
HP 1300 laser that I have OS/2 and winxp pro hook up the xp is hook up
to the usb and the OS/2Warp alias eComStation to the parelle port and as
Long as you don't send a print job to from both machines at the same
time should not create a problem. I have had this setup for two years
or so. Anthony
