ink choice

Kindly advice on the type of MIS ink for black and white to purchase
for printing. I have Epson 1160. There are so many choices out there
that it is difficult to choose. I want the deepest black possible. I
prefer and intend to print on Epson premium luster.
Thank you

I recommend the MIS UT-FSN for the 1160. Even with no curves or profiles it
usually prints reasonably well. All that is needed for more accurate
linearization or new paper profiling is a simple monotone curve, which is
where one should learn. Then RGB is there to take you to partitioning if
you want. I have different stages of curves that illustrate the
progression.

I think the 1160 with MIS UT-FS (medium warm) or UT-FSN (neutral-cool
depending on paper) is still a good and easy workhorse for monotone, matte
paper, B&W printing.

For the 1160 the curves are on the website.

In the U.S. the 1160 has been discontinued, so I have de-emphasized it. So,
I don't have any more than just the curves there.

With the 1280 one can go from monotone to RGB curves, but there is little
point to it. The hextones are already partitioned and so good no more is
needed. (There is an option for UT-FS in the Y position of the UT2 and UT7
if people want it. I have made such curves for ultimate highlights, but
it's not necessary. 16 bit usually gets one just as much.)

If one wants to learn curves, I now recommend the 1280 and a monotone curve.
I think it is the easiest way to learn. I will put a tutorial out there
some day.
