Sorry for this OT plug.

I work with a non-profit group - the Golden Trout Natural History Workshop
(nothing to do with fishing) -- that puts on three one-week natural history
workshops in California's Southern High Sierra each summer. I'm into the
environment, but not a natural history expert. I go to these for the photo
opts and other reasons. Not only the 10,000 ft. plus environment, but also
the 100 year old log cabins of the camp - the only structures allowed to
remain in the wilderness areas - make great subjects. The camp is in the
Golden Trout Wilderness area, at the southern border of the John Muir
Wilderness.

At any rate for more information on this bargain ($395 for a week) High
Sierra experience, see some of my photos at
http://home1.gte.net/res0a2zt/GTthumbnails.html, and get more information on
the camp at http://www.1startists.com/gtc/ .

I'll be there the third week. If there was a group interested in a
photo-oriented session, we might be able to take over session 2.

I do the registration for the group. If you have any questions, contact me
off list.

Thanks & sorry for the plug - but it is non-profit and a great photo
opportunity.

Tom,

My color management workflow is real complicated -- scan Fuji negative, do
auto levels in PS, done.

I did a wedding up at the camp and used that method. They loved it.

RE: [Digital BW] OT plug -- High Sierra Camp

2005-03-21 by Sam McCandless

I can't pass up a chance to try to top Paul Roark, even if it is only
with a report on my own do-less and unsophisticated color management
workflow.

Here in Northern California at least, Long's Drug has some sort of
Fuji tie-in, not that they stock much of their film. But B&H sends me
35mm Fuji NPZ (daylight color negative "portrait" film), I drop it
off at Long's on my way home from shooting it, and soon after, for
less than $15, I get back scratch-free film strips, a single set of
36 remarkably nice 4x6 prints, and an indexed CD of scans with enough
resolution for some purposes. Additional Long's "drugstore" prints
have always duplicated the originals in my experience, and the film
doesn't seem to suffer from that re-run either.
