A tip for the new spongeless carts

A tip for the new spongeless carts

2005-04-11 by Blaine Cavena

I've been using the new clear spongeless carts on a 1280 without
problems, however, they did require a little "tuning." Careful
examination showed that the label on the color cart extended just
slightly over the filling holes, perhaps 1-2 mm. I was concerned
that this might prevent a good seal with the very tiny plugs, and I
knew that a poor seal would allow the ink to drain. The solution was
some careful work with my handy x-acto knife, carefully trimming away
that portion of the label that extended over the hole. Some caution
is required to ensure you cut away all the label but neither damage
the edge of the hole or nor damage the rest of the label.

(I hope quality control improves on these carts so I don't have to do
this again.)

I would second what is said below.

Additionally, I found when pulling ink from 7600 carts that the standard
bottom fill adapter did not seal well. So, for that purpose I shortened the
snout on one to 7 mm, and it worked much better. I use that when I "prime"
the clear carts. I'm wondering if the use of standard bottom fill adapters
might not be as effectively pulling the air out of the outlet.

epsom premium semi-matte....

2005-04-12 by Douglas Meeuwsen

Hello, I have located a place that sells premium semi-matte in cut
sheets. 17x22 inches. Kind of a weird size, but can be cut in half to
11x17 i guess or make a 16x20, or a 12x16. Seems like thier price is
way too low. Here is the link:

http://www.costcentral.com/proddetail/Epson_Premium/S041827/F53850/

$71.00 or 250 sheets? should be more like 71 bucks for 25
sheets....what do you guys think? They are closed right now, so cant
call'em

Never used it yet, but paul Roark does. He was nice enough to show me a
print and let me feel the surface. Very nice. Like a darkroom print,
and very good image and deep darks. You usually can only get it in big
rolls. Paul has talked about it a bit on this forum in the recent past.

Doug,

Adorama's 17 x 22 PSM 25 pieces is S041827 -- the same number as
"Costcentral" -- goes for $80. So, the price you've got seems right for a
25 piece box.

By the way, that is substantially more on a per square foot basis than the
24" rolls. However, the roll paper is more of a hassle to work with. I cut
small pieces from the 17 x 22 sheets.

[Digital BW] Re: epsom premium semi-matte....

Doug, the price is definitely a typo- the cost per square foot in
roll form is about $1.60. But if we turn out to be wrong, please
don't let on until we've all ordered some!(G)

I've used it also-it prints well, and with gloss optimizer on it, it
gives a low-gloss sheen thats quite attractive and very close to a
darkroom print with excellent d-max.

When one clicks on the "add" button on this page this comes up ---"25-SHEET
PREMIUM SEMIMATTE PHOTO PAPER 17INX22IN". So, it is too good to be true.
Unless, of course, they honor their false advertising.

Hi All,

I recently bought a 25 sheet box(17"x22") of the Epson Semi-matte from
Buy.com for $68 which includes free shipping so it looks like it is
still a good deal. Here's the link to the paper:

http://www.buy.com/retail/product.asp?sku=10402453&loc=101&sp=1

I have no connection to them I just thought some one would like a
lower cost.

RE: epsom premium semi-matte....

2005-04-12 by AdventureCam Photo

Doug,

That price is high even for 25 sheets. If you're looking for a
less-expensive alternative, the Proof Line equivalent (Semi-Matte DP) is
$91.00 for 50 sheets, and it's just as good as the Epson.

Hello, I have located a place that sells premium semi-matte in cut

sheets. 17x22 inches. Kind of a weird size, but can be cut in half to

11x17 i guess or make a 16x20, or a 12x16. Seems like thier price is

way too low. Here is the link:

$71.00 or 250 sheets? should be more like 71 bucks for 25

sheets....what do you guys think? They are closed right now, so cant

call'em
