[Digital BW]Well, What Do You Know...

It's been my understanding that Joseph Nipce, was a lithographer looking for a more accurate and quicker method of producing an image than etching it in reverse, inking and transferring to paper. He hit on using pewter plates coated with a type of asphalt varnish that hardens when exposed to light. Until now, his 1826 or 1827 "heliograph" of a scene from a window in his house (8-hour exposure), was considered the first permanent photograph... although technically a photolithograph. http://www.cityphoto.org/jtcc/J_NIEP%7E1.JPG ken schuster .com [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
