It does work. However, there was some discussion on here that uncoated papers might tend to clog the print head. Maybe someone else can say if this is, in fact, true.

Has anyone used watercolor paper, particularly Arches hot-press
(smooth surface), acid-free, 100% rag, in printing B&W prints? I do
both painting and printing and would like to combine the two
experimentally.

Thanks for your help!

I have not used the paper you mentioned, but I have printed on Epson,
Watercolor Paper Radiant White and Breathing Color, Elegance with MIS UT2 in
an Epson 1280. They both give excellent results, however I favor the
Breathing Color paper.(www.breathingcolor.com ) Unlike conventional
watercolor paper, both of theses papers are coated to accept inkjet ink

I searched the archives and didn't find anything on this subject.

Has anyone used watercolor paper, particularly Arches hot-press
(smooth surface), acid-free, 100% rag, in printing B&W prints? I do
both painting and printing and would like to combine the two
experimentally.

Thanks for your help!

Gary,

As one of the people adventurous (stupid? insane?) enough to play with
mixed media, paint and inkjet, I can share a little experience.

Coated papers are wonderful for inkjet use, but they will drive a
painter right up the wall. Paint doesn't "flow" right, it sort of
instantly gets sucked into whatever part of the paper you first touch
brush to. It tends to end up too dark, and too sharp edged...

And most coated papers will wear out paint brushes very quickly. It's
all that clay, silica, etc.

Do you know if you can apply watercolors to this paper if it is
coated? It sounds as if I may not be able to handcolor the prints if
that is the case. I may have to buy a pack of this and try it out.
