Eboni black and photo black

Eboni black and photo black

2005-05-07 by Andy

Is there any reason to put photo black into the 2200 in place of eboni
black when printing on non-matte papers? I have done a few prints on
glossy and smooth pearl and the eboni not only looks fine, it actually
is a lot less "brown" than photo black can be.

Anyone have any experience with this?

hmmmmm......on a 1280, eboni black does not stick to glossy or lustre
papers. You can wipe it right off like chalk. DM

In my 9500, the eboni holds on to a couple of the Red River
luster/semigloss papers fairly well. Yes it will wipe off if you try
hard enough, but far better than other matte black inks, and better
than many other papers. Just to repeat, no it does not stick like
photo black, but better than many other matte black inks. You have to
try it and see if the results are acceptable to you. Gloss
differential may be the bigger issue.

My suggestion is to try things like this. There is very little of
this sort of testing that will cause permanent damage to your
printer. May cause a mess that needs to be cleaned, but not
permanent. Live on the edge, and test things for yourself since
what "works" for me, may not "work" for you.
