Actually I don't think there is a setting for TriX unless it's been added in
the last couple weeks. Kind of odd since TriX is today and always has been
Kodak's best-selling black and white film. Presumably the same thinking that
led to including only XP2 under Ilford films also led to this omission.

Anyhow, these film settings aren't critical. If there's a setting for
another vendor's non-Tabular film use it (since FP4+ isn't a tabular film).
Otherwise just use TMax 100. I don't think these film selections make much
difference in black and white, you can adjust the contrast yourself
regardless of the particular film you've set.

However, if you want a more authoritative answer send a short email inquiry
to Ed Hamrick, the writer of Vuescan. You can get his email address at
www.hamrick.com. He's pretty good about responding if you put the word
"Vuescan" in the subject line. I assume you've already read the information
under the "Help" tab.

Why are you looking for another developer (i.e. what's wrong with Rodinal)?
Without knowing what you dislike about it it's hard to suggest something
different. But if you're going to change you might try D76, either straight
or diluted 1-1. It's a very good general purpose developer. It's been around
for about 100 years so must have something going for it.

Subject: [Digital BW] Vuescan settings

I have a Nikon Supercoolscan 8000, and have been frustrated with the
included software. I recently purchased Vuescan which seems much
better, but now my frustration is with the lack of documentation and
support for Vuescan. Perhaps some kind soul on this site can help?
My question has to do with the meaning of the settings for black and white
negatives - there are multiple settings for both TMax and TriX films
which appear to relate to the contrast. Since experimenting with each
of these settings as a means to learn what they are is tedious at
best, and perhaps unproductive, I am hopeful that someone can help me
with advice or point me to a relevant resource.

Note - I use FP4+ at EI 64, developed in Rodinol, and TriX EI 400,
1600, & 3200, and am looking for a good developer at this point.

Thanks,
Bob

Thanks. I've tried getting help from Mr. Hamrick, and haven't been
too successful. Rodinal and FP4+ are great; I'm looking for a push
developer for TriX - Xtol was no good, and I'm about to try Ilford's
DD-X. I'll make another posting on this subject to see what info
there is out there. This is a great site!
