Pretty basic question, but does one generally sharpen more or less as the print size increases? Thanks! Scott

You can select normal sharpening and smart sharpening. The last sharpens in relation to the image PPI, the printing resolution and size of the final print. On top of that is has a choice of the degree the user likes. Normal sharpening only looks for the drivers native resolution as I understand it correctly. Ernst

Surely there must be some general rules of thumb outside of what Qimage can do automagically, yes? BTW - what's Qimage? :-) Scott Ernst Dinkla wrote:

I doubt you can use the same algorithms to compute it on all the fingers of your hand so rules of the thumb are quite inadequate for the job. But Bruce Fraser has written on the subject and the Photokit Sharpener software is based on his method. The third stage of sharpening is what you are looking for. As that software doesn't interact with the driver it has not the sophistication of Qimage's method. There's a short explication what is needed for output sharpening in this Photokit review: http://www.luminous-landscape.com/reviews/software/pk-sharpener.shtml I'm happy that Qimage takes that work out of my hands. There are some articles with more details on the net. -Bruce Fraser output sharpening- in Google should get you there. Ernst
