question about profiles, (many)

2005-06-04 by jonnytenz

I think someone else had had this problem, but I can't fine
an answer anywhere, -which is how does one go about changing-
down-loading new profiles for new inksets .

I too have downloaded PAUL ROURKS profiles for MIS ut2 inks
and unziped them and sent them to my photoshop progarm,
but nothing happened .Then I put them in my EPSON software
somewhere, again nothing to be seen.

I admit I am ignorant to this stuff, so I would appreciate
any and all info you can give me regarding this problem.

I'm useing XP with adobe elements 2, with an EPSON 1280.

If you downloaded according to the instructions at Paul's site (or the
MIS site, they should appear in the curves file in photoshop. Go to
image>adjustments>curves>load. You should find them there. Have you
looked at the directions at Paul Roark's internet site. They are very
ththorough and should get you where you need to be.

Yea, I did all that. expect pfotshop elements dos'nt have
a <curve> setting under> IMAGES> adjustment, as you and Pauls
site says. I even downloaded his reccomended PICTURE WINDOWS,
albeit the trial version only, and still no curves.

Though I have to say that using just the epson setting and sliders
gets me real close to a good print, I still would like to be able to
experiment with other options. But like I said before I'm not
good with computer software. I do know a good print when I see one
 though.

 Thanks jsut the same

In PWP 3.5+ go to Transformation>Color>Curves>Options>Load and specify
your curve.

Photoshop Elements does not have the ability to directly utilize the curves
I make.

The basic workflow for my curves is to edit the image in grayscale, save the
final grayscale file, convert the image to RGB, apply an image adjustment
curve [what Elements can't do], and print the false-color image through the
Epson driver with the correct settings.

The curves that are posted cannot be used as ICCs and they are not QTR
curves.

So, with Elements, what can be done is to have some one put the curves onto
a small image as adjustment layers. Elements can utilize layers. Then
after you've converted your image file to RGB in the workflow outlined
above, you drag the adjustment layer from the small curves file to the file
you want to print. Then just print that file through the Epson driver as a
color image with the settings the instructions in my Readme and outlined on
the small curves file indicate. (The Readme file is at
http://home1.gte.net/res09aij/UT2-Readme.htm )

I have not gone to the trouble of doing this for many curves. I do have a
file that has UT2 EEM curves on it that I'll e-mail you off list. This is a
good paper to learn on, and the curves are close for many matte papers.

I think they are under RGB transforms. Then only one of the 2 buttons in
the curves box will see the file type. But it works.

Hi Paul,
I did what you said regarding Picture Windows and I was able to
get your curves to apply to the program.
I want to thank you for your personal time.

However even though my prints are very nice as inkjets,
i still think there is room for improvment. Granted ink prints and
silver gel, are two different animals, and I have seen beutiful
color prints in a local gallery, I still think theres room for
improvment. I we could get the tones and depth of a silver halide
paper then, I could spend more time tryimg to learn how to take good
 pictures.

One other think I wanted to ask someone with good experience in
this area is - are there any products that can be used to really
coat a matt inkjet print that would have the effect or look of the
emoltionof a traditional fiber paper?

It seems to me that a good glaze on top of good matt paper would
improve the appearence of the print.

 agian thanks for your help.
