Help with QTR, please

Help with QTR, please

2005-06-10 by mtiktinsky

I recently got an Epson 4000 and have been trying the QTR on Epson
Premium Luster paper. I am having a heck of a time. I am trying to
get a cold tone selenium (similar to my 1280 with piezography inks)
and am very frustrated. All of the prints, the modifications I do,
have a brown (sepia) tint. I cannot get the cold tone on this paper.
I have gone through the curve creation process and get blocked up
blacks in the lowest 5 black patches on the 21 step patch (L values
all less than 10).

I have tried adjusting the sliders on the QTR GUI page for the shadows
and the gamma (setting both to 10) and seemingly am getting closer. I
tried blending a cold selenium tone with a cold tone for a different
paper and the result is even more brown (have tried with 80 blending
towards the selenium).

Also, I am using the 16" wide paper and I set my image size to be 15.8
inches and keep getting told the image is too large and QTR cuts off
both sides of the image.

Please, anyone, some pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Mike

Mike -

I also recently got an Epson 4000 and am using the
QuadToneRIP from Roy Harrington and the regular
UltraChrome inks that came with the printer on Premium
Luster - fantastic results!! Totally neutral, great
tonal gradations, jet black black - my prints look
like Ansel Adams did them. For the curves section of
QTR I am using the "UC-EPhotoPaper-neutral setting".

Would be glad to discuss.
