curves with UT7

2005-06-15 by lovelipp

I'm making a suite of prints - the subject is people- which I
visualized in warm carbon tone. The first trial print, I did straight,
no color adjustment. The second time, I loaded Schwab's curve for
carbon, and the entire character of the print changed.Instead of the
photographic quality of flesh in light and shadow, it is more like an
brush and ink drawing, with loss of detail and texture in the shadows.
It's graphically interesting, but not what I want. How do I keep the
quality of the neutral print and get the carbon tone? Using the sliders
warms it up a bit, but not as much as the carbon curve. Thanks for any
clues.

Arlene,

Since you were using Bill's curves, I assume you have a 7600 loaded with
UT7, and that you're using the Epson driver.

If so, then I also have a set of curves you might want to try. As usual, I
have a 7600 Readme file, at
http://home1.gte.net/res09aij/UT7-7600-Readme.htm, and a set of 7600
Photoshop curves posted at
http://home1.gte.net/res09aij/UT7-7600-curves.html .

Be careful to have the settings as listed in the Readme file (usually EEM
media type, High Speed UN-checked, and No Color Adjustment), and read the
instructions for downloading -- the extension may need to be manually
changed.

Hope these help.
