Hi Jack

I have 4x5, 6x8 and 9x12!
I prefer that last two, I have had a larger tablet, but it was just too big,
had to move my armes too far to reach

don't know if this will help you but that is my $.02

I'm about to order a Wacom Intuos tablet, and am equivocating about the
preferred size. I have a Graphire 4 x 5 and want to upgrade. There is a
"show special", so I get a few bucks off the regular price.

I'll mainly be using it to draw mask outlines, as well as PS retouching,
and wonder if the 4 x 5 would suffice, or should I go for the 6 x 8, for an
extra $100. I'm also willing to try to learn to use the tablet
exclusively, rather than the mouse.

All opinions and reasoning welcome!

Thanks...... Jack Winberg

I have an Intuos II, a very big one, A 4 Oversize, and I hardly use it. I do
not think it can replace Mouse and even less Keyboard. Maybe Version III is
better?

I have the 9x12 and have reduced ( customized ) the tablet area just a bit
in the preferences and it works great.Keeps your hand from falling off the
tablet edge when your working on the the image extremities. It really helps
make great masks and dramatically speeds the spotting process. It takes a
few days to get used to but once you are accustomed to it you will wonder
how you lived without it.

I bit the bullet and bought a 12 x 12, which, I discovered rather
quickly was too large. I had to map it down. But wait, there's more.
Somewhat later, I upgraded my display setup to dual monitors. Now I have
the bottom third of the tablet mapped to the dual monitor setup and it
is the best thing since sliced bread and set my keyboard on the top part
of the tablet. Works like a charm!
I rarely touch a mouse any more. And yes, if you are doing masks, photo
manipulation and just about anything else with Photoshop, the tablet is
far superior for speed and accuracy. I wouldn't go back to a mouse if
you put a gun to my head. Also, be sure and take advantage of the Wacom
brush set which is pressure sensitive with the pen. It takes a stroke or
two to become accustomed to the procedure, but once you get it down, you
are off to the races.
Hope this helps,
Joe

Re: [Digital BW] OT - Preferred Intuos tablet size

2005-06-27 by Brian Ellis

I asked this same question a few weeks ago and most people who responded
recommended the 6x8 size so that's what I got and I've been glad I did.
Unlike a "normal" mouse and mouse pad, with the Wacom tablet the pen or
mouse will function only when they are moved around within the confines of
the interior borders of the pad. If you move out of those borders they cease
to work. So having a larger space within which to move the mouse or pen
around is useful, I don't think I would have been happy with only a 4x5
space.
