Hello, folks,
I was taking a look on the Luminos site, and found this workflow below to
print b&w images with their quadtone inks. Do you feel it could be done with
MIS inks, too? I don´t have the time now, but certainly will take a shot on
it, probably tomorrow. I was attracted principally by the CMYK-Setup
approach (instead of work with transfer functions, that I use now).

Re: [Digital BW] Luminos workflow

Its working very fine. Finally I could use my quadtone inks, without fear
of bandings. The funny part is that I still can see, on the printed nozzle
check pattern, some of the horizontal lines out of the alignment, but this
behaviour dont show on the prints. Since the first good print, I had not
had the need to clean my heads (I mean, the print heads ;-) ).

That's interesting indeed! What inks are you using? And do you get prints
that match what you see on the monitor just following the luminous workflow?

Thanks,

Re: [Digital BW] Luminos workflow

Im using the standard quadtone MIS inkset. And yes, I print exactly what I
see on my monitor (discounted the usual differences, of course - color, some
unmatching contrast, etc). Ive just reprinted a file of a portrait of a
lady, that printed sooo dark and full of bandings before, and now, here it
is, brilliant and full of greys where they are supposed to be.
What print do you use? Would be possible for you to make a test, and compare
both? I couldnt compare, because there are no curves for my 850.

Rodolpho,
I have a 1160 and I'm waiting for MIS Full Spectrum inks. I'll be very
happy, as soon as I get them, to compare Woolf's workflow with this luminous
thing.
By the way, since you have the standard set, what was your previous
workflow? I never had a problem with Brandin's curves, which, unfortunately,
can't be used with the FS inks.

Re: [Digital BW] Luminos workflow

2001-12-14 by Rodolpho Pajuaba

Alessandro, sory for the delay.
I didnt have a workflow. I tried with Brandins one, but it never worked,
so (as I wasnt with the time), I let it go. Now my daily work allowed me to
research, and spend more time with this issue, and that was when I found the
info on the Luminos website.
Probably in 2 or 3 months Ill be able to buy a 1280 (they cost about US$
1.000,00 here in Brazil), and then Ill use MIS FS or VM inks. For now, Im
OK to use the original inkset, as long as its working fine.
BTW, could you or somebody else tell me what would be the A4 equivalent to
the 1280? I dont think Ill need to print A3, and maybe the price
difference is - or not - worthy.
TIA,
Rodolpho Pajuaba
