1280 Cartridge or Printer Problem

1280 Cartridge or Printer Problem

2005-07-14 by rbehr2001

I have an intermittent problem. I can get a perfect print and then the
next one will have solid dark (maybe black) streak of wet ink down the
left side of the picture about 1.5" wide. Ink is just gushing out for
about 1.5" of each 13" pass. It sounds like an unsealed cartridge but
I've tried both factory loaded UT2 and spongless cartridges I loaded
myself with UT2 inks. Any Ideas?

Hi Robert;

I've had that happen with a 1280 when I overfilled the older, opaque
carts-easy enough to avoid with the spongeless carts, since you can see
the ink levels. Try pulling the cart and checking the well around the
input needles; there is probably a puddle there, if so clean it up with
some swabs. If the problem persists see if you can find a reason why
the cart wouldn't be seating properly. Maybe increasing the spring
tension a little might help? Also, make sure the ink refill ports on
the cart are plugged well. If you suspect the plugs aren't all doing
the job, try a drop of silicone instead.

Hope this helps

Steve
