Question

Question

2005-07-18 by David Neely

I need some help and advice:

I am trying to create a DVD disk of my best Fine Art images to burn and send
out to potential customers and clients. I have tried doing this a couple of
ways but with no success. I purchased the Roxio Easy CD&DVD burning software
because it claimed to have an easy method to create a "slide presentation"
which could then be burned to a CD. However the software just keeps giving
me error messages and has other issues.

My question is can anyone suggest the best software or method to do this
type of project?? I would like it to be able to run through the presentation
once the Cd is placed in the drive or have some kind of easy command to run
it. I am having a heck of a time getting this accomplished....so ANY help
would be much appreciated!

Thanks, David Neely

You might want to give NERO a try. I have used it for burning CD's,
making DVD movies and the like. I prefer it to Roxio which I also have.
It (NERO) has a slide show generator but I haven't had the need for it
so I can't comment on its specific utility. One nice thing about it is
that it is updated rather regularly.

I've never tried Nero for slideshows either, so can't comment on
that. DVD Movie Factory from Ulead might be a good (and cheap)
choice. By far the easiest is to use DVD Studio Pro on a Mac.

Hi,
your question raises a question of my own: is there a mailing list to discuss the business side of art photography?

I'd love to be part of a discussion group that focuses on making a living out of the sort of work that is done by the members of this list.

thanks,
Richard

Richard:

Great Idea!! I would be very happy to be a part of a forum that discusses
the business and pit falls of Fine Art photography. I know I have tons of
questions in that arena.

Business of Art Photography list?

Shall I start one up then?

It's tough selling art photography in my part of the world (New Zealand) as people going into galleries want paintings. I've only sold two of about ten pics I've had in the local gallery in the last year and a bit.

All who want a 'Business of Art Photography' list, put up your hands - or email me - and we'll set it up.

This one talks about art shows and selling. The moderators, Larry

other folks who participate.

It does sound interesting.

Of course, being a cynic by nature, I think the most successful strategy
I've seen is to marry the daughter of the owner of the monopoly gallery in
the most beautiful national park in the country. Guess who did this.

It doesn't hurt to be a great photographer either.

Of course, the real trick is to build up a lifetime's body of work
then have it occur to one of your workshop students with a business
inclination that there is an opportunity here to make $$$--the real

It can't be St. Ansel, so I've got no clue. And Gates of the Arctic
National Park doesn't have a monopoly gallery as far as I know.

I would be very interested.

The artshow_photo list and digital-fineart list can both be very useful,
although their interests are broader than photography.

Hi,
it looks like there is a demand for this list, so I'll set about getting it set up.

RE: [Digital BW] Question

2005-07-19 by John Moody

One of the many features of IrfanView is Slideshow (save slideshow as
EXE/SCR or burn it to CD). http://www.irfanview.com/ Free to try.

From the website: IrfanView is a very fast, small, compact and innovative
FREEWARE (for non-commercial use) graphic viewer for Windows
9x/ME/NT/2000/XP/2003.

You would have to register for the small sum of 10EUR if you use it for
customers.

Best regards,
John Moody

Subject: [Digital BW] Question

Re: Question

2005-07-19 by jnhugo

You start your post with "dvd" disc and end it with "cd" which are
you trying to create? Something that plays on the tv when you stick
it into the DVD player-make sure you use the correct disc -some
programs are called on DVD but they write to a cd. I guess they
mean "on your dvd player" rather than on(a)dvd disc!
Also big files don't do well on screen-resolutions of 72-100dpi at
640 width are usually adequate.
