Djon,

I assume you meant the Nick (as opposed to Bill) Brandt exhibit that will be
at the Stephen Cohen gallery.

I am planning on going this saturday. If you were planning on going the same
day, it would be cool to meet someone else from this mailing list.

I've been a fan of Brandt's work since I first saw a copy of the Mother and
cub Cheetahs in BW magazine. Living in LA I am also near Bowhaus and have
been over to there shop and seen many of Nick's prints lying around. They
were apparently used for testing and such. The exhibit ought to be pretty
amazing, and could have potentially very large prints based on what I saw at
Bowhaus. Apparently Brandt works his images up in IJC/OPM on his own
printers, and then ships the files and profiles off to Bowhaus where they
are printed on the large format printers after his profiles have been
linearized to Bowhaus' printers.

Easy to confuse the two...wonder if they're related?

I also admire Nick Brandt's animals...the famous elephant, for
example...seen on a lot of websites and in various magazines recently...

### Please post something about whichever you see (hopefully both).

An urgency developed, preventing me from tripping to LA...I dearly
wanted to see big Bill Brandt photos...instead roared thru Barstow and
Needles etc to get home asap...disappointing....

Nick Brandt is currently showing at Photo Eye Gallery
in Santa Fe. There were upwards of 40 of his inkjet
prints, all extremely capable and elegant.

The elephant dusting himeself is very famous (made the
cover of Camera Arts a while back) but the Lion
blowing in the wind; hippo river and some of Cheetah
families are at least as good.

Unfortunately Nick is now famous and the prices of his
art are quite high. Oh well, at least you can visit
the galleries and enjoy his wonderful art.

Woody, what's your subjective impression of Nick Brandt's images/prints?

Good info about Santa Fe! I don't know how I missed it...guess I don't
follow my neighborhood gallery news very closely...I live an hour away!

Congratulations to NB for getting big dollar! That's a GOOD thing.

Given his past committment to 6X7 and proximity to African animals, I
wonder if he will run out of images? Is this a shallow well? What's
his next act etc ?

Djon

I love virtually everything. His images are impeccable
and he tones his prints to something similar to sepia
which creates a very intimate feeling of connection to
the animals.

I forget the name of the street that Photo Eye Gallery
is on, but if you turn off Paseo Di Peralta onto
Canyon and take the first street east you will go
directly there.

I hope to visit again soon.
