UT2 / UC7 / Eboni questions

UT2 / UC7 / Eboni questions

2005-07-28 by dionloy

I have an Epson 870 and a just-opened set of UT2 bottles (filled one
spongeless cartridge, but haven't used it yet).

Just purchased an Epson 2200 and have to get rid of the 870 for space
reasons.

Is there any way I could use the UT2 inks in the 2200 (is there some
sort of mapping between the UT2 to UT7 inks?). Or has someone come up
with a QTR curve for UT2 ink in the 2200 (I had to ask =) ).

On the other hand, is there anyone that wants to purchase an 870 or a
set of UT2 inks (4oz, all full, except the Eboni).

Can I use the Eboni in replacement of the Epson Photo Matte on my
2200? are any profile adjustments necessary, or is it a drop in
replacement?

If I use the Eboni/2200 and print colour or B&W with QTR on semi gloss
paper, and use PremierArt Art Shield spray to eliminate the bronzing,
is that the same quality as using the 2200 with Epson PK instead?

Thanks!

Hello Dionloy,

I can answer some of these:

>Can I use the Eboni in replacement of the Epson Photo Matte on my
>2200?

Yes. Many people do.

>are any profile adjustments necessary, or is it a drop in
>replacement?

Just put in the Eboni cart and print. I use the easy top-fill carts
from MIS (and a chip resetter).

Regards,
Clayton

The dark, warm grays are the same. So, UT2-M = UT7-C. (The difference in
placement reflects dye v. pigment assumptions the drivers make.)

I thought I read on the MIS website somewhere that the Ultrachrome
and UT7 inks have a heaver pigment load and can't be pumped through
a dye-based ink printer. Paul and Clayton, do you know if this is
true? If so, since the 870 is a dye-based printer (if my memory is
correct), then would the UT2 inks have too light a pigment load for
the 2200 and give too light a print without a custom curve?

I think the only problem MIS had was with the 7600 Magenta, but I'm not
sure. That ink is the only one I've measured that had a higher viscosity
than most of the others, which run in the dye-based printers with few
problems. I think the GP inkset was formulate to deal with this problem.
However, in the UT7, there is no magenta at all (now), and the viscosities
are all in the range of what the Epson dye printers have been handling fine
for some years now.
