ImagePrint prints too light in grayscale

ImagePrint prints too light in grayscale

2005-08-01 by jolynch4242

I'm using ImagePrint 6.0 for the Mac and an Epson 2200. My Apple Cinema
Display is calibrated, using the ColorVision Spyder with OptiCAL. The
image is processed in Photoshop CS2, flattened, saved as a .psd and
then opened in ImagePrint. The preview is significantly lighter than
the image in PS and prints that way. I can drop the levels using either
curves or levels in PS and it will print like I want it, but it's hit
or miss. Any suggestions? Thanks.

When you save your file in PS is it tagged? Don't assume it is, look
at the options in the dialogue box when saving.
If IP get's an untagged file, will it default to some RGB space you
didn't intend? PS treats all untagged files as existing in the working
space.
Just an idea, no IP experience here. But it's color managed, so could
be relevant.

Are you referring to B&W or color prints? In grayscale, ImagePrint does not use the Photoshop
preview facility. For dealing with grayscale print see the note entitled "Notes on ImagePrint
6_rev1.pdf" in the file section of the ImagePrint yahoo group <http://groups.yahoo.com/

I think you should be sure to softproof the image in
PS for the paper you use. It often shows a weakening
of the image which needs to be remedied prior to the
print.

good luck

Thanks for the info. I've tested the Relative Colorimetric instead of
Perceptual in the Rendering Intents for grayscale in IP and it prints
just as it looks on the screen. I am using the matte black cart with
Epson Enhanced Matte paper. Hopefully, this simple solution will
apply to other grayscale images.
